DC is 4 weeks old and not everyday but sometimes he suffers from really bad gas pains.

I purchased Infants Mylicon to give to him and my mom is freakin' out about it saying he's too yound for medicine. She's really good at putting the guilt trip on me and I cave in. I haven't given it to him yet.

Have you used this for your child and what did you think of the results?

We do everything under the sun naturally to relieve is gas. We move his legs up and down, we burp him every 1 1/2 ounce, he's up right for a bit before we put him down, I massage his belly I can't think of anything else. I am going to switch from Avent bottles to Dr. Browns bottles, that's the next thing.

The Dr. Browns may help a bit. My DD had bad gas in the beginning, we did everything you are doing...bicycling her legs; burping often, etc. We did use the Milicon actually the first week she was home & DH tasted it...it has no taste. It truly didn't help DD but we still used it a few times. It couldn't hurt & our Dr. said it was fine to give to her.

Ask your childs pediatrician. At our six week appointment he told us to give dc mylicaon with every feeding. It made him less fussy.

My doc ok'd mylicon from the very beginning, it's safe for newborns and infants.

I've given it to them as soon as they come home from the hospital. Both girls at one time got it with every feeding for a week or so at a time.

DD is exactly one month old today - and we finally gave her gas drops last night. What a world of difference!!!!! She seems to only get bad gas at night, and she was awesome last night!

We already use the Dr. Brown's.

ETA: The instructions say you can give at every feeding - but we have only had to give her one dose since 9pm last night.

Mylicon is extremely safe. No reason to feel guilty.

I felt the same way. I did not want to use it. I used the Dr. Browns at first. It was better but not enough. Then I finally listened to the Ped. It made a difference. I also switched to Playtex drop-ins and did belly massage.

I used it with every bottle at maybe 2 or 3 weeks old. I don't think it really helped, but it is safe for newborns and infants.

We've been using it in every one of Lily's bottles for as long as I can remember. She's happy and healthy at 6 months, so I don't think we're doing her any harm!
It's a natural substance, I believe....not medicine.

It is absolutely safe to give a 4 week old. It does not even get absorbed into the blood. All it does is work to break up the bubbles in the belly and then it is excreted. I used to give Marron double the dose that was printed on the bottle, and never had a problem, but it did help her!

It's not "medicine". It just physically breaks up the gas bubbles. It's similar to drinking water to cure hiccups. The water is a "cure" (sometimes), but it's not "medicine".

Instead of the mylicon drops I would use something natural like GRIPE WATER. This mixture is fennel and other herbs. This has really helped my twins.

The problem with mylicon drops is over the course of long term use, the magnesium build up can cause the muscles to atrophy thus causing a delay in crawling and walking.

But, in the end, it is your child and your choice!

I used mylocin drops occasionally with DS at the recommendation of my ped. There are some babies that get it at every meals b/c of their gas problems. It is safe to use.

Mine too.
I have only had to use it twice but once the dr said it was 100% safe, I felt no fear in using it.

I gave my DD mylicon at about that age she had tons and tons of gas and that is all that helped... it is ok and it does not go in thier bloodstream. Mylicon is like a tums for us.

I can relate - my mom freaks me out over everything that is not the same as she did with me (eg back sleeping, sterilizing everything, mylicon drops). She also takes a poll among her friends who always seem to agree with her (perhaps because they also had their kids 30 yrs ago!). I'm just keep going on the advice of the ped and have been doing mylicon drops with every bottle. So far, so good!
