Moving - WWYD - OBs Hospital

We currently live in N. Babylon and in less than a month will be moving to Selden. My OB is right here on Deer Park Ave and see him every week or every other week. I am being monitored by Madonna in Brightwaters (Bay Shore) every week, sometimes 2x a week. I am currently in my 31st week. Selden is obviously not a hop skip and jump from either of these two places nor is Good Sam (where OB is affiliated). Some of my Madonna appts I try to make for a Saturday but some have to be during the week and so I have to drive myself. Same with OB, I drive myself now since I usually have to sit in the waiting room for 2 hours if I choose an evenning appts.Chat Icon To complicate matters, I have been on disability since week 16 due to a slew of issues.

So what do I do? Do I start looking for OBs closer to Selden? Do I suck it up and drive the 30-40 minutes to the OB every week? Do I just continue and then deliever at St. Brook and have whatever doctor is there deliver baby? How does it work with disability if I did change doctors? Actually, CAN I change doctors this late in the game? I'm so confused...just another added burdenChat Icon

Re: Moving - WWYD - OBs Hospital

I live in Holbrook and make the drive to Deer Park and Brightwaters as well. For Deer Park I try to go around 3pm. I am usually in and out in about 45min-hour. Which is good for that office. Brightwaters I go at 8 or 9am and never have to wait. I also don't hit any traffic but that will prob change with teachers going back to work Chat Icon . Too bad I am almost done with my pregnancy. We could have car pooled Chat Icon
I can't imagine going to a different doctor or peri but I am sure you can find someone closer if you really want to switch. I would switch before hand. Given the fact you have had issues you will want an ob delivering that knows your history and will be able to give you the best possible care. Chat Icon Chat Icon

With my 1st pg we moved to LI from Brooklyn in my 9th month. I took the train in every week to see my OB and delivered in the city(had to drive in at 5:30 on a tuesday afternoon-fun!).

If you love your OB and don't mind the drive, I'd just stick it out. But if you don't care, you could switch. If your pg has been uneventful, there shouldn't be a problem with a new Dr taking you on. Chat Icon
