Moms of babies around 9 or 10 months old...

Grace will be nine months on Feb 10th. Chat Icon I can't believe it. What are you feeding your DC? My day care provider said that I should start giving her food that we eat, like eggs, mashed potatoes, mash up chicken that I cook, etc. Grace only has two bottom teeth that are not even fully in yet. Chat Icon I am confused and reluctant to give her food we eat instead of baby food until she has her teeth. Then another mom picking up her kid at the day care looked at me like I was nuts & told me that her DS did not have teeth until he was 15 months and she started him on real food when he was 5 months old. ??????Chat Icon I am sooooo confused.

My ped told me that I should give her some real food but see how it goes , etc. The conversation was vague and the doc had an emergency and we could not spend a lot of time talking about it. I feel like an idiot.

Any suggestions?

Hey, don't worry! Those gums are pretty darn hard and they can mush up food almost as good as your teeth can!!!

I would (again) get an Annabel Karmel book and look at what she suggests for kids that age. I started to feed Noah whatever we were eating at around that age...I would save something from the night before or I always had some filled pasta with some bolognase sauce for him, tuna pasta is a big hit! Boiled chicken, matzoh balls...anything!!!

I am prob the minority here, but my PED pretty much doesn't push solid foods on babies under 1.
He recomended to us formula should still be #1 source of nutrition with a min of 20oz's a day.

We are going to start giving her more real food like pieces of meat, cooked veggies, and cut up pieces of fruit instead of coming fromt the jar, but not increasing, we actually have to cut back a little otherwise she won't eat her min formula.
Gianna just started actually chewing and mashing with her gums, so i take that as she's ready for more texture like foods and her risk of choking might be slightly decreased, makes me feel a bit better.

sorry so long

Ava is almost 8 months and I give her table food. The only thing I still puree is chicken, but i leave it chunky. Everything else, veggies, fruits, etc, I cut into small pieces and steam if they need to be softened. They can chew very well without any teethChat Icon

My daughter seems like the exception, she has 8 teeth already!! But I give her table food now. She still gets her 18-20 oz. of formula a day too. And she is still fed jar food too as her main source. But I do give her table food at each meal if I can.

We do pastina, tubitini pasta, cheese, mashed potatoes, egg yolk, soft veggies cut up, pieces of ripe banana, gilled cheese cubes, rotisseiere chicken (its very tender), etc. She loves her Cheerios, puffs, wagon wheels, biter biscuits, etc....

Sydney is almost 11 months and has been off baby food for almost 2 months now. She can eat almost anything and only has the 2 bottom teeth. They use their gums and not their teeth to mash/chew.

I am so bad. I rarely give Jordana table food- mainly because she doesn't eat with us except on weekends. Jordana also only has 2 bottom teeth.

But what I have given her, she really likes. I am so worried about he choking and I just spoke to the doctor about it. She suggested that I cut everything long and thin- julienne style. That way its hard for her to choke and she can hold onto something.

I also give her a roll or a piece of pita. She loves knawing on it. Its almost like a toy to her.

you will be AMAZED at what they can gum with 2 teeth. I was giving her Tyson chicken tenders with only her 2 bottom teeth (among countless other people food). At about 7-8 mths old, she refused baby food altogether, so I had no choice.

Just make sure everything is nice and soft. STart with Gerber dices (pears, peaches, green beans, apples).

My son only has 4 teeth and he is 10 months and eats mostly table food. I buy whatever veggies & fruit I can find organic and steam it, then mash it. He eats EVERYTHING - zucchini, yellow squash, winter squash, eggplant, pineapple, watermelon, bananas, regular oatmeal, yams, baked potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, etc. I also give him little pieces of chicken that he can pick up and eat, and boca burgers. You'll be surprised at what they will eat.

ETA I don't steam the fruit, just the veggies.

WOW, thanks ladies. I guess I need to start trying table food instead of jars. She really does not chew yet because I have been giving her the stage 2 Earth's Best jar food and it is the consistency of apple sauce that is not chunky. I guess she will start mashing the stuff in her mouth as we introduce new stuff right?

I would start with puffs or cheerios and see how she does with those so she can start practicing...then move on to cooked veggies and fruits, chicken, bread, whatever...
