I live in Massapequa and I love it here. I also love Massapequa Park. So many nice restaurants and parks. I've personally have had nothing but a great experience so far with the schools. There's a big thing going on now where they are trying to move 6th grade to the middle school (it's currently in the elementary schools). Lots of parents are unhappy about this move and feel the administration isn't listening. Supposedly a final decision has not been made yet. Taxes can be pricey (I guess that's all of LI though), especially near the water. There's lots of different areas here, some more expensive than others. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

I grew up in North Massapequa, Plainedge Schools. I loved growing up there. Great school district which is on the smaller side which I really liked. It's a nice family friendly neighborhood and a great place to live!

We just moved to Massapequa Park in April and absolutely love it!
Love our neighborhood, neighbors and proximity to everything.

We live in the Massapequa Woods area and love it, the only reason we are leaving is to get farther west for DH's commute to Jersey every day. We have grown out of our house, which is why we are looking to move. If the commute wasn't an issue we would be buying something in our neighborhood.

I grew up in Massapequa and I loved growing up there. The areas by the water are more expensive. Some areas flood more than others. My parents live in an area by the water, but it had never flooded in the 30+ years my parents have been there-- until Sandy. The flooding areas have changed and insurance companies know this. My parents were dropped and had to find a new insurance company. This is an island wide thing though
IIRC, Massapequa Park has to pay more taxes. The schools are good, but there is a drug problem.

Massapequa is beautiful. It was definitely one of our top choices for towns but DH wasn't happy with the property sizes for the $$. So we moved to West Islip, which I absolutely love.

Not exactly. Massapequa has an enormous drug problem that seems out of control at this point. People are finding needles in playgrounds, the train stations, and outside in the streets. The reputation for this is very well known right now.
We know many people moving from the city (including ourselves), that didn't consider the area for this reason.

In respect to drugs it's in every school. The poorer districts are overrun with meth and the wealthier schools it's coke and heroine. It's a real epidemic.

I was raised in Massapequa and my husband and I just bought a house here in May. We live in Massapequa Park (not the incorporated village). I have always loved living here and love the neighborhood. Our taxes are higher but the neighborhood is clean, friendly, lots of parks, nice restaurants, lots of nice events, and i had an excellent education. We look forward to raising our family here.

I represent school districts and therefore know many many many school districts that have HUGE drug problems.

There were also limited Honors and AP classes mostly because it's a smaller district and less demand. I took all AP and Honors classes though and had a good education for the most part.

Grew up in Massapequa Park. Live in Massapequa now. Could not imagine living anywhere else. Near everything. Family friendly. Plainedge school district. Cant say enough good things about our school district.......very happy! I do agree with another post. Massapequa is bordered by a number of school districts so definately look into that.

do you remember how many went to 2 year schools? With the high cost of tuition a lot of people start at Nassau.

This is often a financial decision. I know many that went to 2 year colleges that transferred their third year to private and state schools and are very successful. I wish I had done the same.
