Losing hope - need help Italy
My travel agent isnt helping much and I am now doing this on my own!
I need hotels in Florence and Rome...around $250-300/night. Ugh it has been so hard to find one that is nice and in a convenient location!
My friend who I am mtg there is checking also and we just cannot come up with any. We had found ones that we liked and the travel agent was helping us but we waited too long and she takes forever to respond and well we lost them, wahh. Now I am back to square one...does anyone have suggestions for me?

Have you tried Tripadvisor forums? They can be a lot of the help and the destination experts are great!

I stayed in the "Hotel Astoria" in Florence. It was in walking distance of everything and VERY NICE inside. The rooms all had vaulted ceilings and were decorated so pretty. Staff was great and they put out a great breakfast in the morning as well. It was terrific!

We stayed at Hotel Degli Orafi
LOVED IT! Every night we had a drink at the bar upstairs on the terrace and the bartenders were great. Plus, it's right across from the Ponte Vecchio.
Great location! Not sure about the price b/c it was included in the package from out TA.

YES! I live on there! But just dont see anything nice enough for our price. I am thinking we need to raise the amount we are spending. Either that or settle for a 3 star or the only other thing we can do is opt to not be in city center!

Re: Losing hope - need help Italy
We stayed here when we were in Rome
Best Western
It was right near Vatican City. The subway was a block away. That would put you at the Spanish Steps I believe in 1 stop maybe 2. We also took it the Colisseum - very easy.
The hotel was small, newly built, modern. There was a cute gelateria 2 blocks away. Afew blocks in the other direction put you admist resturants.

Re: Losing hope - need help Italy
how long are you staying? Florence is filled with short term apartment rentals (for a few days or a few weeks). They're quite reasonable and centrally located.

Re: Losing hope - need help Italy
We stayed at this hotel on our honeymoon 7 years ago. We both loved it, it is very nice and comfortable, the housekeeping is excellent. There is a beautiful roof terrace where they serve breakfast and it is right across the street from Ponte Vecchio and very close to all the great things Florence has to offer!
Also, if you come out and walk away from the hotel on that same street, along the water, there is a restaurants where we ate 2x during our 3 nights stay in Florence. It's the one with boar's head on their signage, a very casual place. The food is traditional to the region and is excellent! They serve wild boar and amazing white bean soup, among other things!

We stayed there too! It's a great hotel and right next to everything - Ponte Vecchio, Duomo, Academia, etc. It's in a great location.

This hotel does look gorgeous. They are quoting me $350/night...sort of out of our range...ugh!

Wow, it was WAY under that when we stayed there. Sorry!! That's inflation to you!
ETS: we actually used an agent for our whole honeymoon trip, who was able to get us good deals. May be you SHOULD try one and see what they would be able to get for you...

where do you live? Christina at Liberty Travel in Oceanside helped us with our HM in Hawaii and our Italy trip. Although that was a couple of years ago. Not sure if she's still there or close to you.
I got a few quotes from different TA's and went with the best price and best ideas.

I don't remember where we stayed in Rome but we stayed in a Best Western in Florence. It was very nice, clean and centrally located. We didn't need a fancy hotel because we were really only there for breakfast and to sleep.
