Losing a parent and taking care of LOs

I lost my mom last Friday. She passed suddenly of a heart attack. She was 54. I am obviously a wreck.

I have 8 month old Chat Icon Chat Icon which my mom helped me out tremendously with. The list is too long of all the things she's done for us. She also babysat them for me 2 days a week while I work (MIL had them the other 3.)

I'm heartbroken. My mom was my best friend and we talked every day. She helped me run errands with my boys when DH wasn't around. She was my go-to person.

I am having a hard time being a mommy right now. I am just so upset. I'm trying to pull it together for my babies but I am a mess.  I try not to cry in front of them so I don't upset them. My mom adored my boys, so they are a constant reminder of her, which is wonderful but makes me cry right now.

This is so hard.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Losing a parent and taking care of LOs

I lost my dad when DD was 15 months. He loved her so much and it is still hard for me, knowing that she won't ever remember him.

Right after he passed away, I had a lot of mixed emotions. She made me smile through my tears but at the same time mad me sad, b/c I knew my dad would never see her again.

Now I'm pg with #2, and its even harder knowing he will never even meet this grandchild.

It's tough, but try to think that she is still watching over them even though she can't be with them. I know it's not what we want, but it can help sometimes.

Oh my god, my heart is breaking for you right now. Don't worry about crying in front of the boys. They won't remember and if you need the release, just do it. Many prayers for you right now during this difficult time. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I am so sorry for your loss.

I lost my mom when DS was 23 months old and I was pregnant with DD.
It was so hard knowing she wasn't going to meet DD and thinking DS wouldn't remember her.

I show lots of pictures and answer any questions I can. My sister always went with the motto "One day at at time" and that's what helps me get by. Chat Icon

I'm so sorry for your loss Chat Icon I lost lost my mom suddenly also when my son was almost 3 months old. It was so difficult because all I kept thinking was that all she wanted was to be a Grandma and she got so little time with him. But it's very ironic because my son was born 2 months early so she got almost 3 months instead of just a couple of weeks with him. It was so hard because I was a new mom and all I wanted was my mom to help me and tell me what to do but like the previous poster said . . Just take it a day at a time and put one foot in front of the other. I cried many times in front of my son and we talk about Grandma all the time, even though he doesn't remember her. Two years later it is still very tough but I know she's watching over us very closely and that makes me feel a little better. Again, I'm so sorry.
