Looking for vacation ideas

We definitely want to do a beach trip this summer (we are in Northern Westchester so no beach here!). We were thinking of the Jersey shore, but the problem I find is that you have to rent a place for a full week. We have a 5 and 4 year old and I'm not sure there's enough for them to do for 7 days. There's only so much beach and boardwalk they will tolerate. It's not a $$$ issue.

So my question is - do you think a week is ok or too much? also, any ideas for some where with hotels that we can drive to? I don't think my DH wants to drive more than 3 - 4 hours.

We went to the Jersey Shore last Summer (Wildwood) and stayed in a motel that didn't require a full week. We stayed at the Star Lux (check it out on Trip Advisor). Super cute, renovated, clean, and across from the boardwalk and beach. We had an amazing time. Family friendly, and tons of kiddie rides at Morey's Piers, and the waterparks were so clean and great. I think Wildwood was a dirty destination full of clubs and thugs years ago, but it's def. been cleaned up. We loved it!
