Little red pimples - do i need to take him to ped or is this just heat rash?

For about two weeks off and on DS has been getting this rash on the back of his neck, a little bit sometimes on the top of his arms - a little on his face (maybe three-five total "pimples" on both of his cheek), sometimes on his thigh. Some days it is better, some days it is worse. I haven't taken him in b/c I swear he had this last year and it was heat rash but, it doesn't seem to be going a way and now I am worried maybe I should.
Basically they are like little red raised pimples that never form a white head. the largest concentration of them is behind his neck.

ETA: DS has VERY sensitive skin so he is ofen getting little bumps or rashes on his face from food or on his neck or arms - it often goes away after a week. Anyway, that is why I didn't think anything of this (enough to take to ped) but, now its been a while and seems to be getting worse.

Do they itch him? Any secondary symptoms (fever)?

I don't think it's heat rash because I would think it would be in warmer spots (crevices where he sweats, near his underarms, etc) on him not his cheek. Is he a sweaty kid? The cheek thing can be from drool.

No fever. Doesn't seem to be itchy. The thing is he sleeps with his face smooshed into the bumper and the crib sheet so he often wakes up with whatever side of his face was down sweaty (and the forehead and hair too). Not sure if that matters.

I guess I will probably take him to the ped....

ETA: The back of his neck *may* be itchy - its hard to tell b/c he often feels irritated back there and scratches - just from the shirt rubbing or his hair...

If he's sleeping face down & his cheeks get wet that could account for it - also if he's sweaty at night, I could see that too.

I do think it's worth a call if you can avoid a visit. He may want to see him but if it's been going on for 2 weeks & not bothering him, I wouldn't be too concerned.

No swimming lessons or anything, right? Does it seem to appear in the morning mainly?

No swimming lessons. It does seem worse when he first wakes up and then looks less pronounced as the day goes on.

I will call the ped but, i just know they are going to make me come in! And, with the whole flu thing (I don't live too far from the outbreaks) I'm just hesitant. Oh well,

Thank you!

Sounds like it *might* be viral...DS just had something similar (not necessarily the same) but not too long after the rash appeared he had a fever of 102 and the doctor thought it might be strep...thankfully it wasn't and he is better now but it had to run it's course.

Its worth a trip to the doctor just to be sure....I hope that your DS feels better soon.

Hmmmm....I doubt this is it - only b/c he has had the rash off and on for a few weeks and has not had a fever at any point in time since then...

Thank you though!

If it doesn't get better this week I'm going to bring him in. But, today its again looking better...

Thanks ladies
