Lipoma removal

Anyone have this done? If so and by who? I have had it done twice and it keeps growing back. Looking for a plastic surgeon although most don't take insurance.

Re: Lipoma removal

Where is it that you need a plastic surgeon? Can you go to a derm for it?

It's too big for my derm to do it. Its right on my shoulder blade where you can see it if you wear tank tops. I have had it done twice now and it keeps coming back. Last time a plastic surgeon did it and I ended up with a horrible scar. The first time a general surgeon did it. So I want to try someone else but the scar matters as you will see it all the time in warm weather.

It is hard finding a plastic surgeon that does this and take my insurance. I don't want to end up paying out of pocket for this as it is covered by insurance. I had the surgery twice and both times it came back. I am trying to find someone that does these often enough but coming up with not much during my internet search.

I did get a verbal quote and did research....I was told around $1500.

I did research on Real Self and that is the amount I came up with. Both past times I had the surgery it was in network. One time with general surgeon and second time with plastic surgeon. Insurance covers it, it is just there are not many plastic surgeons on my plan. Please let me know if you find out any other info on a plastic surgeon. Since this will be my third surgery for this, I want to find someone who does this often.

Re: Lipoma removal

I had a large lipoma removed from my right shoulder blade a little over year ago. I didn't even think about going to a plastic surgeon. For some reason the scar doesn't bother me (and mine is pretty significant because I ended up with a large hematoma afterwards that put a lot of pressure on my stitches. It's over a year later and I still have discoloration like a bruise.) I guess if it grows back I should keep a plastic surgeon in mind. To be honest, I think my scar would have been minimal if it wasn't for the complications a week later. Chat Icon

Dr William Martin in Huntington did the surgery and did an overall great job. ( I screwed things up by physically doing too much.) Dr Filipe Sobral is also at the same practice in Huntington and he did an awesome job on my gut (appendectomy and he handled most of my follow up for the removal of my ovary & Fallopian tubes - the gynecologist was useless.)
