kitchen counter/bar stools

Do bar/counter stools have to or should they match your kitchen table? Does anyone have pics if they don't have matching ones?

I meant to ask if they had to match the chairs at the kitchen table. I ask because someone I know, that is an interior designer, claims that your bar/counter stools should match your chairs at your kitchen table. I didn't think so, and wanted other opinions before I bought anything.

Why would they have to match the kitchen table?

I don't think they have to match..

I have a wood round kitchen pedestal table with 6 chairs (wood/upholstery/leather) and my bar stools at the breakfast bar were wood (different color wood and fabric but the print didn't match the kitchen table)
