I personally don't think they belong. Some of the sketches are xxx

Hmmm I didn't think of that. I wouldn't want my kids looking at that either. But in a person's house while you are getting a tattoo, no problem with that.

2 of Shauns cousins have very xrated tatoos and they both have little kids... they are in plain sight and can be seen quite often...

Getting a tattoo is not something I would share with my child no matter how young or old the age.
I don't have any tattoos but I am pondering on the idea. If I do end of getting it, I wouldn't even bring my 11 year old. not cool at all imo, but can care less what others do.
Imo it's not a place for her and we don't need to share that moment in time together.

Not a place I would bring my child but I don't think it's a big deal that others would. As long as they behave and don't touch Im sure they would be fine.

I know the place I went to they don't allow anyone under 14.

I will say that my 8 year old would probably think its the coolest ever.Chat Icon

Nope, but I'm not going to put them in a situation where I KNOW for a fact they are going to see x-rated things.

I def wouldn't like this...to each their own...this would bother me more than having DD in a tattoo parlor.

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors

Some things are for grown-ups and some things are not. There is no need for a child to watch this and IMO it has nothing to do with morality or x-rated images, there is just no need. I have tattoos and I may get one more in honor of my children but the last thing I would do would be to bring them to watch.

I really don't think this is a big deal at all.

I wouldn't take my kids because they're all over the place and they get into everything, but I don't think a tattoo parlor is the WORST place to bring a kid... not by a long shot.

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors

I would not be happy if someone brought their small child to a tattoo parlor if I was getting a tattoo, unless there was someone else there to take care of them. I don't want my artist to be distracted by a small child in the tattoo area.

I have been to 3 tattoo shops, none of them were set up to "entertain" children. Too much for them to get into mischief and the artists should not have to be concerned or distracted by small children.

I know, some people may say "my child is well behaved". There are dangerous sharp objects/needles, for the safety of everyone it's really not a place for small children.

Some shops have restrictions on the age of minors allowed in the shop as well.

I do realize OP said it was in a private residence.

I don't know that I'd go so far as being appalled over it, but it's not a place I would bring a kid.

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors

I don't really find anything wrong with it, when I was 7 my mom took me with her to get one of her tats, I don't think there was anything wrong with it and I made sure not to distract the artist

I don't see it as a big deal. In tattoo parlors you aren't allowed behind the counter unless you are getting one done.

I would totally bring my son who is 3.5. Its not like there is anything taboo going on there, nothing illegal, nothing to poorly influence him. I dont see the big deal.

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors

When DH was about to get his 1st tattoo we went to the parlor to talk to the artist. We brought DD#1 with us.

The artist (owner) did say that when he came back DD couldn't come because it's a liability. We didn't plan on bringing her back but I didn't know if that was just his way of saying he didn't want kids there.

We wouldn't have brought her in the area that they were tattooing, we were just in the waiting area.

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors

Most shops have sings that say "no children allowed." So it's a non-issue. When I got mine, my kids stayed home. Anymore that I get, the kids will stay home, too.

nope. I wouldn't. actually, you would be hard pressed to find ME at a tattoo parlor. I am just not a fan.

ETA: needles and blood. no. hepatitis is a big concern. as well as other blood borne diseases. I am not familiar enough with whatgoes on at a tattoo parlour to be comfortable.

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors

Flame away if you want but I brought dd with me when I got mine. She stayed in the stroller the whole time in the "waiting room" drank her bottle and slept and watched nick jr. We were the only ones in there. I wasn't by myself so when I was getting mine, my dad was with her. When he was getting his, I was with her. We went for walks outside to get the fresh air. But not once did she touch anything.

Had she been older, I wouldn't have brought her for the pure fact of wanting to get into everything and not being able to sit still.

There are WAY worse places to bring a child. Tattoo parlors aren't a concern to me.

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors

I honestly fail to see what is such a big deal about bringing a kid to a tattoo parlor..

frankly, they're not allowed in most of them anyway, but that's more to protect the artists and for liability for the shop than anything else. No one wants a kid running around while you've got needles and ink on someone's skin - too much potential for a mistake.

but, just what do people think goes on there that is so objectionable to the kid itself?

I personally wouldn't bring a child to one, but that's more out of respect for the shop and artists there than thinking something will happen to the child

I know the place I had mine done does not allow any kids under a certain age even in the establishment. Not even by the front door.

I don't see a big deal with bringing her child. Kids see worse things in music videos and the tv. I am not too worried about pictures on the walls. lol

If you are worried about influence, I believe that parents have the sole responsibility and I really hate the shared blame these days. When my daughters grow up and they are misbehaved, don't do well in school, and are out late at night drinking it will be my fault and hers. NOt others. Not the teachers, not the tv, not because she walked into a bar or tattoo parlor, ect. If you don't want your kid in that scene fine, you make the decision for your kids alone. jmo

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors

I would never be in a tattoo parlor bc I do not plan on getting a tattoo, ever. I have a tiny one I hate and want removed Chat Icon So this does not apply to me.

A co worker taking THEIR kid to a tattoo parlor? That is their business. They are the parent and I am sure they will ensure the child is safe.

I am sure there will be things I do as a parent that other parents will frown upon and I could give a sh!t Chat Icon As long as I am comfortable with it and my child is safe they can be appalled as they want.
