Job Question

Tomorrow I have an interview ... finally! I left my last job over a year ago and have just been waitressing and working part time at a school. I cannot wait to be back in an office environment and actually use my brain to work!

But ... I'm hoping they still hire me after learning I am 6mos preggo. Im' only planning on staying home a few weeks after Chat Icon is born (my dh is taking time off, too, so he will be home).

Here's my question ... how would I know if they are not hiring me ONLY b/c I'm preggo? There's no real way of knowing, is there?

Re: Job Question

tricky situation......you would have to PROVE that your pregnancy is the reason you were not hired...

but good luck tomorrow Chat Icon just make it clear that you only intend to take off for a few weeks. BUT I have to caution you that since you will most likely be employed there (if hired) for less than a year and / or worked less than 1250 hours in the past 12 months you will not be entitled to FMLA and are therefore not guaranteed your job back.

Re: Job Question

You can't prove it. They can always say another candidate was better qualified, etc. We had someone try to sue for racial discrimination, when the person we hired was of the same race. We had to document why we hired the person we did.

Isnt it true that in NY they have to let you take disability leave? I know I read it somewhere but can't find it online now.

yes the woman can file for state disability that is true, but as far as job protection under FMLA....i don't think so.
