Its been a while, but I need some input...kind of long, SORRY

So I have been away from the boards for a while. Sad to report that my situation hasn't changed much since my last visit.

Just a refresher...Last fall I was diagnosed with Pre Ovarian Failure. I have only had 1 menstrual cycle in the last year (TMI, I know!), and it was induced by Provera after several months of Estrace. Technically, since its been a year, I believe I am now classified as *gulp* menopausal (at 27...fabulous!). Not that any of the doctors like to use that term with such a young female. I know either a donor or adoption is the most probable scenario for the future of our family, but I am not convinced that there is nothing else that can be done.

I am on my second doctor now. I have only tried 1 type of treatment, which my first doctor attemped. I went for a second opinion and found a doctor that I like better and more comfortable with, but who isnt willing to try anything else. I had my uterine fibroid removed approximately 3 months ago. My hormones have improved (meaning my FSH has come down a bit and my E2 has increased...all naturally) but apparently still not enough to do anything with. MD wants me to go back on a low does of estrace to "keep my symptoms under control", which arent even that bad 1/2 the time. I've even lost weight, and am continuing to, in hopes that my obesity isnt playing a factor.

DH and I are considering meeting with a 3rd RE to see if someone will take a different approach. Do you think this is ridiculous? If they have nothing else to offer we will proceed with the donor as planned. There is just so much involved and we are both still trying to remain positive. I have seen MDs at LI IVF and RS of NY. I was considering East Coast Fertility or even going in to Cornell. Anyone have any MD recommendations?

Am I crazy to still be so optimistics?

Please consult with Dr. Braverman. I know of five of his patients who tried to get pregnant this month with his help. All five are pregnant including a woman who spent 6 years with other REs. Braverman got her preggers on his first shot. I was previously with LIIVF with no luck and have found Dr. Braverman to be a totally different experience. Best of all I am pregnant!!!

Given your situation, I would consult at Cornell.

First of all, Congrats! Second, where is Dr. Braverman located? Does his practice have a name? Thanks for the suggestion.

I would consult with Dr. Braverman and Cornell. Your age is with you and you always have time to do your other options. Run to both of these places.

Thank you for all your help and suggestions. DH and I had a good conversation over dinner tonight and I think we will get consults by atleast to other REs. Cornell definately being one of them.

We both realize that we were planning on doing nothing for the next few months anyway, so it couldnt hurt to go consult a few more physicians in the mean time. Like I said, we are both ok with having to use the donor, we just both want to know that there is really no other treatment options we can try before resorting to one.

My advice would be to give Braverman a try. He is an amazing Dr and he really thinks outside the box. Of course, I'm a little biased.

From what I have heard and read, Cornell is the foremost IF authority in this part of the country. Go there.

Have you tried acupuncture? It really does wonders at getting your body to work the way it's supposed to.

I know that people really Cornell, but I have to tell you, I didn't like them at all and my FIL works at Cornell!

For your high FSH, did you start taking Wheat Grass shots? You can buy these at a health food store. They taste gross but they work!

Secondly, have you tried accupunture?

I met with Dr. Peter Chang who works with Beth Israel in NYC. I LOVED him. If he doesn't think he can get you pregnant, he doesn't lead you on. That is what I like about him. I got pregnant twice (both IVF) miscarried once and twins the second.

I have PCOS and weight is an issue for me as well.

Good Luck! Braverman gets great reviews here!

Thank you all for your input. I am going to schedule at least 2 more consults and see where its leads me!

Acupuncture and wheat grass shots are something I have considered but havent really brought myself to trying yet. Maybe I will put them back on the table. Who knows!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with going for a few consults....you need to feel comfortable with the doctor and his course of action. I wish you nothing but the best of luck!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
