It fascinates me...
I was driving to the movies last night and an old Violent Femmes song came on I used to LOVE in HS. I knew ALL the words, they came to me with no problem....
and I just started thinking about how amazing it is that my brain has the ability to remember SO MANY song lyrics from songs so long ago and yet I have to put post it notes all over my house to remember what I have to do for the day! 
Why is that?

I am the exact same way with songs, I can hear a song one time and memorize the words or hear a song from YEARS ago and start belting it out

I was thinking the EXACT same thing today while I was listening to my Rent soundtrack. I have the entire soundtrack memorized, but I have sticky notes all over the fridge because I can't remember anything else & when I put something down, I can't remember where it is 5 minutes later! It amuses me

There's actual studies based on this. Singing/music is wired in the brain totally different than everything else. People who have really bad short-term memory loss learn to sing to themselves to remember. People who stutter really badly learn to sing what they want to say. I've seen a show where a person could not say a sentence in less than a minute because they stuttered so badly. However, if they sang, there was no stuttering at all.
The human brain is absolutely fascinating...
