Is soft serve ice cream bad to eat?
The doctor didn't tell me anything about this, and I never read it anywhere. I have had it about 5 times during this PG. Someone told me it was bad to eat during PG.

my best advice is ask your practitioner because each one has a different theory/philosphy on what to eat or not eat!

it's now on the 'bad' list becuase a study showed that many shops don't clean out their machines well, so bacteria grows over time 
I dunno. I had a happy 2nd trimester filled with chocolate soft serve before this story broke. I don't know how to weigh that info.....

Thanks for the info!! At my next appt. I will ask the doctor. If she says it is fine, I'm going to eat it. I don't have it very often,and I usually eat it at the same place.

Yea, its definitely because of the machines. Knowing someone that owned a candy/ice cream shop, it was a PITA to clean the machine & took a long time. They of course did it, but I can see going to a reputable place. Like I think the Carvels' etc have to do it nightly.
I'd personally stay away from the Mr. Softee trucks though

I always go to the same carvel! It is a family run business that has been there forever. The owner is always there, so I'm sur they clean the machines. I will stay away from Mr. Softee.

I got it from the soft serve truck on 6th Avenue every night on my walk to Penn for about 6 months of my pg - and I wonder why I gained 60 lbs 
But Ryan is plenty healthy!

I personally don't trust anywhere to clean the way they should - most of the carvels and other places have 16yr olds working there. I'd rather not take any chances. But I know I am in the minority.
The ice cream will taste that much better after the babies are here.

I agree. My Dr. told me no soft serve. Last night we had a Mommy class thing at my OB's office and the nurse teaching also stressed no soft serve.

you can have ice cream, but soft serve is questionable because of the bacteria issue in the machines. I eat ice cream every night!

I worked in a Baskin Robins for four years in HS. Anyway, the frozen yogurt machine was NEVER cleaned properly. My boss used to keep rag in a bucket of water until they would basically fall apart when touched , and we used these rags everyday... They smelled really awful.... Like a wet towel on the bottom of a hamper... Anyways, we used to clean the machines only when there was a flavor change... Or every 3 mo or so and we never used soap... just these gross rags.... I would also like to add that this was in Massapequa.... a decent town.... so just just a heads up on how "clean" those machines just might be....

Most of these places have very young kids working there, so I can believe exactly what you are saying. That's why I don't eat it, no way.

I've never heard of the no ice cream b/c of bacteria rule. I've had soft serve several times throughout my pregnancy.

Listen girls, I just want to tell you that the list of "no-no's" actually goes out the window when you can't keep anything down. I had hyperemsis and could barely eat anything, so my Doctor told me to eat and drink whatever I could keep down!

Seriously, eat soft serve ice cream!!! I mean people start getting so absolutely ridiculous when they are pregnant about what they can do, eat, have, etc. etc. Look, use common sense, do what's best, and don't sweat the small stuff..........more than likely you and the baby will be perfectly fine even though you've had soft serve ice cream, a cold cut sandwich, and so on and so forth. There is so much information out there that you can drive yourself nuts.............I mean really, years ago moms use to eat whatever, smoke, drink, etc. and the babies were fine. I'm not saying go on a drinking and smoking bender BUT soft ice cream???????...................give me a break!! I say eat up!!!
