Is it normal for a 9 month old to be into EVERYTHING?

I simply cannot keep up with my son these days. There is no place I can even put him down because he seems to find trouble everywhere. He climbs on everything, eats everything, pulls off molding, crawls under gates, opens drawers, knocks things off shelves, etc. He does it all with a smile of course, but he seems to not yet be able to grasp the meaning of "NO!"

We have tried the playpen, which lasts about 5 minutes before he starts going nuts to get out. We have blocked off areas of the room, but he finds his way into corners and areas he can't be. We even went to a gym class and all the other kids were sitting quietly and paying attention to the activities, and DS was racing off to the other side of the room!

I feel like my day is spent doing nothing 24/7 but running ater him. Is he just bored? Does my son just have extra curiosity and energy? Or is this what everyone experiences? If so, WHEN does it stop?!?! And HOW do you get ANYTHING done?

That sound just about right to me. My DS is the same way.

DS is the same way at 9 months- only wants to pull himself up to standing on things and if there is no coffee table or couch to do this near him he gets grumpy. He loves to open drawers. His toys are starting to bore him and when he grabs other things and I say no he cries as if I am taking away the dearest thing to his heart......Chat Icon

This has been my life lately. I miss the days when she would just sit in one spot & play with her toys. This weekend I'm buying the "coral" thing to fence her in with her toys. I hope that works.

good idea, maybe I will get one...although I sense he'll have the same reaction to that as he does to the playpen!

also, do any of your kids watch TV? my son HATES tv - will not look at it for more than 10 seconds no matter what shows/DVDs I try...

DS roams the kitchen, DR & LR and touches everything and anything in his crawling path! He cruises the couch/walls and tries to climb to the top of the couch as if it was mount everst!

yup, this has been our life the past few months as well..
Nikolas cannot stop moving around =.. is into everything and hates just sitting and playing with toys.. (I miss those days too!)

and if I 'try' to restrain him from things he shouldn't be getting into, all hell breaks loose (I swear this kid has my temper already Chat Icon)

I don't think it gets any better, in fact it can only get worse once he's really running around Chat Icon

Yes, this is my son! He has temper tantrums already when you try to pull him away from things! It is almost funny. How on earth are they going to contain him at day care with 8 other kids in the room? More worries!!!

Total normal!! He's testing his limits and boundaries and looking for your reaction/action to tell him what's right and wrong!

Honestly, all you can really do is make sure is area is safe and be consistent. IF you let him open a cabinet and play with pots, don't yell at him the next time not to touch it.

My daughter has free reign of my house, the only thing that gated is my stairs, it was tough in the beginning, but know she knows what she's suppose to touch and not most of the time.

It will get better and he'll begin to learn about limits if your consistent
