Is Ethan Allen worth the price?

I went into an Ethan Allen store today and loved what I saw. Is it worth the money if I can afford what I liked? Or is there somewhere else with better quality for the price?

Re: Is Ethan Allen worth the price?

IMO that furniture is so worth the price!

My grandparents have pieces that they bought years ago that are still in the best condition. My parents bought furniture from Ethan allen about 15 years ago and the charis and sofas still are as firm as they were the day they were delivered!!

If you can afford it....GO FOR IT!!! Chat Icon

Re: Is Ethan Allen worth the price?

IMO - yes. When I was a kid, my parents bought me a "youth" bedroom set from there. They still have it and it looks like brand new - It's probably about 20 years old. When we buy a house, I will be bringing it with me.

Most of their formal LR furniture is from there and again, its like 15 years old and still looks great.

Thomasville is also another brand with great quality.

Lululu is a big fan and has a lot of EA stuff. FM her for more details.

EA stuff is so worth it but it's so much money. If you can afford it, get it.

The sofas we liked there cost $4000 each with the fabric we picked.

i LOVE their pieces and have quite a few. yes, they are $$$ but IMO, definitely worth the price. a major difference is that you work directly w/ a designer.

the designer does an in-house consultation, then presents a floor plan, fabric choices, and paint color options. the furniture takes about 8-10 weeks to be delivered but the designer will visit your home again once the furniture arrives to inspect and place it. they also will advise you in re: to accessories and window treatments.

ETA: i have the following EA pieces:

LR:
Marissa sofa
Chippendale sofa
2 Sussex Chairs
8x10 rug

Den:
Whitney sofa
Chair (not pictured on the website)
8x10 rug

if you want an idea in re: to the REAL prices, FM and i will find my receipts

here are some old pics my den (soon after the furniture was delivered, hence the tags), sofa, pillows, rug and chair are all from EA.

YES!! We purchased our entertainment center and it is made so well and very heavy (I cant push it and dh needs help moving it) and its not even that big it holds a plasma. We also purchased our coffee table which is really 2 seperate tables and now we use them as end tables since the baby is crawling. They usually have a great payment option too.

Re: Is Ethan Allen worth the price?

I have an Ethan Allen couch and chair that I bought at their warehouse sale. Their warehouse is in Deer Park(edgewood area) I'm sure you can call a store and find out when it is. We bought the sofa and an armchair with ottoman for 1100! We had gone around 2 pm and then left and went back around 5 to 5 when they closed at 5 and made an offer. They took it!

Re: Is Ethan Allen worth the price?

As Christine stated - I have a lot of EA furniture - our bedroom set as well as many of the pieces in our LR are from EA.

I find that their upholstery is very good quality and completely customizable, which i liked very much because i hated everything that i saw on the displays in any store i looked in. I like to have lots of options although it can get a little overwhelming not knowing how the final product will turn ou.

Also, I like the fact that they have accessories, area rugs, lamps, and window treatments. I just ordered my living room window treatments from them and while they were expensive, they werent as bad as i thought they would be.... My DR window treatments from Calico were more $$$ for the same size bay window, however I used a more expenisve fabric at Calico as well....

The wood furniture we have from EA is good quality, but not the best I have seen. My bedroom set (the distressed white furniture in out guest room) from prior to moving in with DH is from Drexel Heritage and I think its better quality than EA. I love Drexel Heritage - I feel like its a lot less popular than EA but they have some great pieces.

Also, our dining room set is from Thomasville and is good quality. I like it although my husband got that prior to meeting me so I didnt have much of a choice. I might have opted to get something antique... but anyway - he used it as his poker table while he was sinlge and its a little scratched on the surface but all things considered, it's held up pretty well.
