Is anyone hiring a baby nurse

to stay with you for some time after the baby is born - or does anyone have any experience with one from previous children?

I would love some feedback...I think we are hiring one - but I would love to hear someone elses opinions and experiences with this.

Re: Is anyone hiring a baby nurse

I WISH!!! I'll be on my own with 3 kids!!

Good for you, I'd love to hear more about people's experiences, but to be quite honest with you, that 1st month home with your newborn is so very magical and I wouldn't want anyone other than my close knit "crew" intruding on my time with my newborn. I think that is hen you really learn the ins and outs of taking care of your baby and I wouldn't want anyone other than me or my hubby or our parents and siblings helping to care for our new peanut. I bet it would be very helpful if you have no family around to help though, and if that is your case I'd say "Go for it!".

Do you have any other children that you'll need help with, because I bet it could be helpful to them as well to have extra hands if no one else is around to help?

Re: Is anyone hiring a baby nurse

I have no other children - which is sort of why we are hiring the nurse. (I am terrified to take the baby home and have NO clue as to what to do)

She will be there for 2 weeks - not to care for the baby - that is our job, but to assist in teaching us HOW to care for the baby - she will help with my attempt to breast feed, and just in case I have a c-section-she will be able to help out so I can heal a bit.

Her job is really to make the transition a little easier - and less scary for us.

Sounds very nice, I have don't know anyone who has ever used one. They have baby care courses at local hospitals if your trying to weigh your options. You're right though, it is scary, but I'm sure you'll do great!!Chat Icon

Re: Is anyone hiring a baby nurse

Hi, first congrats. Chat Icon My SIL had one, it may have been a mid-wife, I don't know if thats considered the same. She met with her before she gave birth and when SIL went into labor at home the midwife came over and I guess was just coaching her through the process until it was time to leave for the hospital.

I know the mid-wife was there for the first time they bathed him and things like that to show the correct way to do it. I don't know how long they had her, but they also didn't have a clue about what to do. Her baby was the first diaper she had ever changed Chat Icon

Hope I helped you a little. Chat Icon

I'd be curious to hear other's experiences also. My mother passed away when I was 13 and MIL lives 3 hours away. I'm clueless and slightly petrified. Chat Icon

Re: Is anyone hiring a baby nurse

My SIL had one, which her insurance paid for. She swears it was great. I think that it could be a great help for both first time moms and moms with other kids at home.

I say go for it!
