This guy has been fighting corruption in Russia for a very long time. He really gets under Putin's skin.

They poisoned him via his underwear!

He just tricked one of the agents involved in his poisoning into confessing by pretending to be someone from Putin's inner circle.

Back to the more serious part - the situation makes me sad (on a personal note as I have some connections to the country) because Russia had a chance to embrace democracy but it just couldn't happen. The redistribution of assets following the end of communism was badly botched and Russia became an oligarchy.

Now lower oil prices, attempts to reduce pensions, and other domestic woes are causing discontent to rise. The people see "Putin's palace" and are rightfully disgusted.

Anyone really interested in this who likes a good page turner ought to read Red Notice by Bill Browder. He's a financier who worked to expose some of the worst of Putin's corruption.
