I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry... Update! Keys retrieved!
DH and I are in Cary, NC right now checking out the area... We have a nice day, ect... and are going up to our room after dinner... when DH drops the car keys down the elevator shaft 
Apparently I may not be having a choice but TO move to Cary.
Please  that the hotel is able to contact the elevator guys to get his keys by tomorrow
Update: 8am - YAY! We have keys! Thank you, Hampton Inn!

so, apparently the elevator guy is out of town... but will be here at 8am to hopefully retrieve the keys...
They need to bring the elevator up the the 2nd floor, turn it off... then someone needs to go down to the 'basement' level.
only us
I think this is a sign to not go back to work and remain in Cary for the long haul 
Thanks for the hugs guys - lets just hope the keys are easily retrievable!

That happened to one of my roommates while we were at Binghamton! The custodians were able to get them for her right away. Good luck!

I hope you are able to get your keys back!
My dad was crossing the street once and was just about the step up on the curb and dropped his keys.... and down the sewer they went

The same thing happened to me last year in a parking lot - right down the sewer drain! I screamed so loud I think everyone in the parking lot thought I was being attacked or something.
