If your child is in daycare...

at what age did he/she start and do you feel it was a good time to start?

DS will start daycare at 6 months. While I'm grateful we don't need daycare sooner, I wonder if he'll have a hard time transitioning at this age.

TIA

DS was 10 months. He did cry when DH dropped him off for the first couple of weeks, but it did get better.

Re: If your child is in daycare...

DD was 5 months and had no issues. I don't think she cried a single time the first day. Now she cries when I leave, go figure!

DS was over a year and he had no problems transitioning.

Re: If your child is in daycare...

DD was 3 months. Of course I missed her, but she was fine and looking back she loves her daycare so the adjustment was minimal, its just what she knows. Plus I love my provider.

DD started at 7 months and I think that was great.

I want to wait until at least 6 months before starting daycare with our second as well.

Re: If your child is in daycare...

DD started at 6 1/2 months and I think it was a good age for her. She didn't cry when I left her (sometimes she does now but very infrequently) I was so nervous about the entire process but she handled it so well it made things a lot easier quicker than I had anticipated.

3 months for both kids as I had to go back to work.
This worked for us and we had no problems at all.

My son started daycare the week of his first birthday, that was perfect for me. It would have broken my heart into little tiny pieces to have sent him any earlier. I had a loooooooooong maternity leave, so I was lucky. But for me, I could never send my infant to be looked after by someone else. I know some people don't have the choice, but it wouldn't be for me.

DD started at 10 weeks old. I had to go back to work and had no other options.

I felt it was a great time to start. She is very used to going to daycare now- and I feel like its probably because she doesn't know anything different.

Taylor started day care at 1 year old. I also worried that it would be harder for her to adjust since she was older.
There are good days and bad days. The bad days usually occur when I drop her off and her regular teacher isn't there yet.
When my dad drops hers off, she is usually fine.

rocco started at 2 months old - it was early but i had to go back to work..he didn't notice one bit. now when i pick him up he gets so excited and his newest thing is to give me big open mouth full kisses - so i guess he understands the concept of being picked up - though he doesn't seem sad when i leave - thankfully!

same here. In terms of timing it was good in that we had no separation issues when he was that young. However, I do wish I could have kept him home a little longer to avoid all of the colds and sickness in those early months. But I didn't have a choice. And I was comfortable with the provider so that helped.

Re: If your child is in daycare...

My DS started at 3 mos and was ok.

IMO a good daycare has a transition week. So i am sure your DC will be ok

Re: If your child is in daycare...

My kids both went PT, my oldest at almost 2 and my youngest at just 12 months. Honestly, I think both ages were tough and my youngest had an especially difficult time with the separation. In some respects, I think babies have a bit of an easier time as it becomes part of their routine at an early age.

Re: If your child is in daycare...

DD started at 17 months. I was greatful that we were able to keep her home that long, but by this time, she was into everything, and I couldn't work from home without a million interruptions and it was getting too hard. She loves it!

Re: If your child is in daycare...

DD was 16 weeks. I never really thought about if it was a good time to start since the only other option was a nanny! Now DD is 6 months old and thriving there. She loves it. She smiles as soon as we walk in and get so excited when she sees her teachers.

DD started at 6 months. No problems at all. She was way too young to realize what was going on. She's 21 months now & absolutely loves school!

Re: If your child is in daycare...

almost 6 months and it was good for him - he was secure enough to not need to be held 24/7 but too young for separation anxiety.
