If you worked for a small company when you had DC...

how did you/they handle your time off after giving birth? We are going to TTC for #2 this winter and I want to make sure I have this all figured out.

I started working at my job p/t about a year ago. Including me, there are only about 6 employees (2 of which are the owners). I know am not entitled to FMLA or maternity leave being I am only p/t. I am ok with this b/c being I only work p/t 2 or 3 days a week I have no problem coming back to work after having #2. I dont want to lose my job being they are so flexible and great to work for.

My question is...is it state law that you get 6 weeks off after you birth until your dr medically releases you to go back to work?

You get the 6 weeks of short term disability, but I don't believe they have to have your position when you come back. At my company, they mailed one girl a letter saying she was terminated while she was out on leave.

I have been there 8 years and get special treatment from the bosses, thank GOD and know my position will always be there...even though I'm only 3 days a week now. I am almost done with my 3 months of unpaid maternity leave. Do you feel confident that your employer will hold your position? You can always speak to them. Good luck!

I'm pretty confidant he would hold my job. It would take him too much time and $$$ to re-train someone for my position, plus we get along well and he likes me work.

I just wasnt sure what right I had considering I am only p/t.

My office is 3 people, my boss, myself and a secretary.

I took the 8 weeks for a c-section and then 2 weeks vacation as well as some time without pay. My boss was fine with it, but I was available by phone when he needed me. He did not legally have to let me take that time since FMLA is only for companies over 50 employees but it would have been crazy on his part to find someone new and train them for the 4 extra weeks I took.

Good Luck!

I work for a small company as well..it was 2 bosses and 2 employees including me.

My bosses gave me 12 weeks...2 were vacation time. They gave me my full paycheck and they took my disability checks for 8 weeks.

They didn't have to do that...but I am blessed to have them.

They hired someone to work part time while I was on maternity leave which they ended up keeping her part time.

When and if I have #2... I will only take the 8 weeks since it will be c-section.
