If you park at LIRR train station without a permit...

...and get caught, does anyone know how much the fine is lately?

Have no choice and no time to get a permit so I just want to know what to expect.

I'm pretty sure it's like $75. Can you do daily parking? That's $10/day by me.

Town of huntington lots is $75. Not sure if it is different in other townships (or if the parking fees are managed by MTA.....tho don't think they are).

I think it might vary depending upon the town. I know Merrick has majority of parking free but some new lots with a permit required. I think Baldwin also has some spots that don't require a permit. Some lots might have metered parking. Finding a spot will also depend on what time you are leaving.

Maybe if you post the station someone can recommend a pay lot or non-resident spaces. It's been a while since I commuted, so I'm not much help, but I know Little Neck still has a pay lot.

Re: If you park at LIRR train station without a permit...

I'm not a frequent train commuter, but I don't understand how one can be so rushed they can't just leave a few minutes earlier to drive to a town with a lot anyone can park in.

Granted you may have to walk a bit, but I'd rather do that then pay a big fee.

It's like what, maybe an extra 10 minutes in one's day?

Because some towns don't have lots you can park in ans by me the few meters are take by 7 am and the lots near by are similar. I'd have to drive 5 twins away. In the morning with kids that's a lot.

I don't know. I still don't see it as a big deal. My son is long dropped off anyway before I'm hopping a train.

It's just basic planning IMO.

I live on the SS and most of the lots still have lots of parking, but you need to gasp! walk a little.

Re: If you park at LIRR train station without a permit...

P.S. It doesn't have to be forever if you will need to take the train all the time.

It will give you time to get a permit.

The lot I used to drive to actually ended up having an express train, so it was actually a lot quicker than if I went from my town.

Where do you live?

But if the op lives further east it's not like the stations along the Babylon line where there is one every mile. If ronkonkoma is the closest than its far to the others. And ronkonkoma is a shit show.

So it's a little more than basic planning and not everyone can drop their kid off long before hopping a train. Day cares only open at 630.

I'm sorry your response to the op was a tad rude. If she's willing to pay a ticket who are you to judge her planning

Re: If you park at LIRR train station without a permit...

Why do you constantly have to argue?

I know you're supposedly an attorney but I think your responses tend to be a hell of a lot ruder.

It's about having options so calm down.

Why do you have to always get personal. I hardly argue on here because I just don't get wrapped up in things in life. I generally don't give a shit about stupid shit in life

That's why I thought your comment was rude.

And why does it matter what I do. You are a therapist correct.....then I'd think you could have more compassion for others. If you want to get personal

Op- hope your train trip works out.

Re: If you park at LIRR train station without a permit...

I asked a general question, you picked it apart.

Anyways, OP, I too wish you luck.

If you live along the SS or are willing to drive there I can recommend lots to go to.

Re: If you park at LIRR train station without a permit...

Thanks to all who replied. I am on the Huntington line and I am not aware of any lots anywhere nearby that have free parking. I am not a commuter so never got a sticker but this was a last minute thing that came up and I have to be on a 6:30am train - there is nobody that can drive me or pick me up. It's fine, not a big deal, it STINKS to maybe have to pay a fine but who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and they won't be police on patrol since it's a holiday week. Wishful thinking, I know!

You might get lucky. I used to go out of Huntington when I lived up there and never had a sticker since I wasn't a regular commuter. I did have a few times when I couldn't get a meter and I got lucky!!!

TOH you can pay the daily fee of $10 CASH and drop it in the slot. You park in front of the station in a numbered spot.
Hopefully you saw this while going or fo tomorrow.

Which station are you going to? If you park in the neighborhood at Huntington you don't need a sticker.

You could also call a cab as an option.

If you park at LIRR train station without a permit...

I use to commute from Kings Park and I don't think I had a permit. There may be some free parking there but that was about 7 years ago. If it's a one time thing I would just pay the fine and hope not to be caught, they don't check every day. I would though send in for a permit so in the future you have it just in case.

As far as the previous posters, the Babylon line is totally different than the other lines for the LIRR. The Babylon line, you can hit about 4 or 5 train stations and parking lots within a 10 minute drive straight on Sunrise. With the other lines, it is not so simple and the stations are 15 or more minutes apart and not an easy run. The train schedules are also not as frequent as the Babylon line so what you may think is leaving 10 minutes early, in reality may be an hour earlier.

To the Op...good luck with your trip : ).

OK thanks for clarifying.

I am basing it on the SS.

If the daily spots are taken - you can park in the most southwestern lot on the west side of 110/NY Ave, they don't normally check stickers because it's not a full lot by any stretch.

If you are going from Greenlawn or Northport, park on the southside of the tracks.

also to MorningCup - sometimes it's not really a planning problem as much as logistical. I used to drop my daughter at a place that was supposed to open at 8am & catch an 8:11 am train in to Manhattan. The doors actually opened at 8:04am. If another mom got there earlier than me & offered to watch my daughter until they opened, it was a game changer. If not I would park where I could & run for the train. It was always a crapshoot depending on traffic. A slow-moving kid getting on a schoolbus in front of me could easily throw a wrench in my commute & make me late to work.

I honestly would Uber there and back-it will be cheaper than a potential ticket and just about as convenient
