I've always been a huge supporter or gay & TG rights, but I do find this whole hoopla over the "pregnant man" to be just plain silly. Yes he's classified legally as a man, but really c'mon its not like a man with male genitalia is pregnant!!! Its a TG female to male individual who is a pre-op transexual who opted to keep their female reproductive organs and therefore by nature's standards they are in fact STILL a woman and is pregnant. Really not that big a deal people.

We are living in a tabloid society where people like Perez Hilton become celebrities in their own right. If people put the information out there - the media is going to grab hold of it. The only way for the sensationalism to stop is for the public to stop eating it up. It's a vicious cycle and everyone has a part in it to some extent. Thomas Beatie is putting his life out there, the media is putting it on the front page, and the public is reading/watching.

While I don't care how he/she refers to him/herself, I do care that the news is being reported incorrectly.
If I were to go live as a man and have children, it doesn't mean that a man can get pregnant.
I don't think it's earthshattering news that women can get pregnant and carry a child. It certainly deserves a backseat to the CA fires. If due to medical intervention a biological male can carry a child, by all means front page...

ITA. I know he has legally changed his gender from female to male. But that is just a legality. His body is still female - sorry I know he doesn't CONSIDER himself female, but biologically he is. And this female body got pregnant and then gave birth to a child. Yes, he took testosterone (hormone) pills and his clitoris grew large enough to be like a small penis and he is able to have intercourse with his wife, but it is NOT a penis, it is an enlarged clitoris. He is still a woman - with facial hair, without breasts since he had them removed. He has chosen to live as a man because he feels like he is a man, he said in his brain he feels like a man - fine. But biologically he is a woman and that woman had one child and is now pregnant again - big woop, what is the big deal? The only "big deal" I think is that he is transgender and that they are publicizing their story.
I feel utterly horrible that they are receiving death threats and that the lives of their baby and new unborn child (and their own) are in danger - I say, live and let live. They are not harming anyone. In reality this is just two women who have chosen to start a family together - one of them feels more like a man, changed her gender to male, but kept her reproductive organs. Ok. Story over. She was not born a he, so the whole "pregnant man" thing isn't such a big deal to me, personally. Like others have said - once I hear of a man, born a man, who is pregnant, then I will find THAT to be a big deal of a story.

Even sadder is that there may be legal issues with the kids if god forbid something happens to Thomas Beatie one day... this is due to the fact that originally Thomas was listed as the father and Nancy as the mother on the birth certificate, but the records department rejected this because they said the person that gave birth must be listed as the mother, so they then listed Thomas as the mother and Nancy as the father. But Thomas and Nancy fought this and what they were finally granted was to both be listed as parent and parent (which is what is used for gay/lesbian parents). But apparently this may be an issue if god forbid Thomas were to pass away because Nancy is not a biological parent of the baby and she has not legally adopted the baby - so they are saying that she would have to legally adopt the baby but Thomas and Nancy feel that they don't have to do that because Thomas is the actual father and Nancy is the mother.
All complicated and the kids may end up the ones suffering one day because of it but hopefully not.

Thomas is not the actual father. Thomas is the actual biological mother. Period. She should have to legally adopt a baby that is not hers.

A relative of mine lost custody of her 2 year old twins - why? because she & her life partner broke up & she was not the biological parent. She could not adopt the children. The partner gets 100% say in any visitation, etc. The only reason why she has "support" is because the relative wanted to make sure the children were provided for so she made the life partner a 50% partner in her business. The woman gets 50% of all of the income & the relative gets to see the kids maybe once every few weeks.

This is very sad and that is what upsets me. They are more worried about what they want than what MAY be best for the child. In the situation you describe, the children WOULD pay the price, if this is true....so they are selfish IMO. I am sorry but THOMAS is NOT the father based on the entire situation. It's his genes, yes, and he carried the baby, and they used someone unknown's sperm. End of story.

Oh, I totally agree that he is not the father, he is the biological MOTHER. It is THEIR argument that he is the actual father and Nancy is the mother and that is what they want the birth certificate to show since he has been legally declared a man, so they want him to be shown as the baby's legal FATHER.
Honestly, the fact is that he is the biological mother and Nancy is not biologically related to the baby, but they are BOTH her parents regardless of biology. I just hope the baby (now babies) don't lose out because of all this!

They're already losing out IMO. Not because their biological mom is now a man. Because their parents are jumping into the spotlight for the monetary gain. I feel the same way about the Reality couples who have first birthday parties sponsored by magazines. It loses something.
