I think my nb is constipated

DD hasn't had a dirty diaper since this morning. By now she usually has 6-7 poop diapers. Is there anything I can do? She's only a 10 days old

I wouldnt panic...they can go a few days without poop...wet is a different story
my dd only once a day and everyonce and a while would skip a day

Is she FF or BF? I know for FF babies, they are only expected to have 2 bowel movements a day.

This happened to DS when he was a few weeks old. When I called the pediatrician she told me that their bowel habits will vary greatly. DS had dirty diapers really frequently and then he didn't have one for a couple of days. Ped said it was normal but if you see DC pushing really hard, that may be different story.

it can happen. i think the concern is over 24 or 48 hours??

pedialyte like 1 to 2 oz in a bottle will help then.... had to do that when ds pooped out a very constipated one.

i wouldn't worry unless she seems like she's really straining or much fussier than usual. DD was never a big pooper. when she was very young (the first couple of weeks) she might have a few BMs one day and just 1 the next. she skipped a couple of days here and there, too. Like another posted said- as long as shes putting out wet diapers, its fine. If there's no wet diapers, then theres a problem.

if you're very concerned, you can try the thermometer trick (put vaseline on it and stick it in the butt- that usually stimulates some movement).

I wouldn't be concerned just yet. Joey is an every other day once a day pooper and it's H U G E each time since like the 2nd week of his life!!! I asked Ped. if this is normal b/c I was panicking, he said as long as it's not coming out like pellets and he doesn't seem to be straining or extra fussy then he's ok....as long as he was also having plenty of wet diapers, he said he'd be ok too.

my ped also said if concerned I could do the vasseline/thermometer route.

If BM is in the form of pellets, and kind of dry, that would be constipation.

the first week i had ds home, (he is only 2 weeks) he was having 6-7 bms per day, then it just stopped, and he went almost 24 hours with nothing. Ped explained that they go through growth spurts, and eventually have less bms..

they told me that as long as he is not going for 2-3 days with nothing, then not to worry...

DS has gone up to 3 days... usually this happens when he sleeps a lot. I wouldn't be concerned.

I feel better thanks. She does have plenty of wet ones so that is good. She is also farting a lot lol She is however fussier than normal. I'll see what happens by tomorrow. If anything I'll call the doc tomorrow. Thanks everyone

my dr. told me that unless there was no poop for 3-4 days that they dont consider it constipated

see what happens tomorrow
