i saw a post on craig's list a while ago...UPDATED!
about a mom who was in need of repairs simular to mine. i did not know if it was a scam or not so i replied to her a few times and it seemed to be real. so i told her to contact Contractors for Kids, the group who also helped, in rebuilding my house and this is the email i got from her today:
HI,
I don't know if you remember me, but I had posted an ad on Craig's list a while ago about help for fixing up my house, and having 2 kids with medical problems. You told me about Contractors for Kids, and I just wanted to THANK YOU!!!!!! While it has taken some time, they are going to redo so much of my home that is molded and rotted, and much of what is making my son & me sick.....My daughter has an auto-immune disease, so this is helpful for her as well, as no one should be breathing in mold at all.
I would never have found out about this wonderful group of people if it weren't for you, and I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for changing our lives by informing me of them. I owe it all to you!! THANK YOU, and my family thanks you for replying to my ad as well....GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!!!

i just got this new email from her:
Hi Janet,
Thanks! I haven't spoken to Kevin at all, I have been dealing with John...and it turns out one of the advisory board members is a partner/doctor of my daughters' at Schneider's children's hospital, and sees her every 5 weeks when she goes in for her Remicaide infusion!! So they were very familiar with our situation quickly, in fact, John has already had us hold the date of January , 2008 as their guests of honor family for their big yearly fundraiser at the aquarium in Riverhead!!! They are going to transport us there and back!! I can hardly believe it.....and I owe it all to you....You will be changing my childrens' lives, and I cannot thank you enough!!
I am so glad you remembered me, and I will keep you updated, as once this is all completed, they are going to publicize it for them, the contractors that are doing the work, and themselves of course, as they deserve every ounce of publicity they can get!!!
Did they publicize any of the work they did for you? How long does all of this take? Just wondering how this will all work, I am so nervous, excited, happy, yet crying....every emotion all at the same time!!! And I know only someone like you, who has been through this can understand.
Contractors' for Kids are all a bunch of wonderful people working and donating their time and efforts for a wonderful cause, and both my kids will now have a healthy environment to live in! Plus it will look nice too, instead of having a house with all the shingles falling off all over! My daughter has always been so embarrassed of our house, and now she won't be!
I can't thank you enough, and if there is anyway I can let them know you referred me, please let me know your full name, and I will be sure to let John know how grateful and wonderful the people they have helped are to pass it on and help others, like you did!

*NEW UPDATE* and I just wanted to share with you all.
Hi Janet,
Thanks for thinking of me! Contractors for Kids is giving us a $10,000 grant, which is going towards the work done on the house. John, who I've been working there, was excellent as far as working with the contractor I picked, getting the price down by $3,000, and now it's more or less a waiting game since I have gone to the roofing company & Siding company and asked them to donate the materials needed for my house, to lower the price to where $10,000 would be covering all that needs to be done. We are also doing the same with the windows need. Basically we are waiting on paperwork, and letters of necessity for our family from Contractors for Kids, which is something they don't usually do, but are trying their best to help us. I was hoping this would all be done around now or at least started, as my children are so disappointed we didn't put up x-mas lights thinking we would be under construction, but you can't look a gift horse in the mouth!! I can't complain...I told my daughter we would put some up tonight on the other side of our house, and go into our neighbors lawn, which the house is empty anyway.
I will definately let you know more as it happens. If you are interested in coming to their fundraiser in January, let me know, I have the info on it now, and it's at the Riverhead Aquarium, and it's theme is re-live the roaring 20's!! Should be fun!
