I don't know if my 17 month old knows his name

My 17 month old DS shakes his head a lot and the ped. recommended we see a neurologist. He doesn't come when we call his name, but he definitely can hear. He doesn't really make eye contact with me on a regular basis. Is this normal at 17 months. He plays and will read books with me, but I don't know if there is something else going on. Anyone have a similar experience?

I would contact EI for an evaluation and than go from there.
