Hunger strike - help please

I can't believe I would ever have this problem with my rather ... ahem... robust DS but for the past 5 days, he has been all but refusing to eat. He normally takes 32-35oz a day; the most he's taken since Wed is 24oz and today he only took 2 oz of his 8oz bottle!

He is teething and congested so I'm sure this is the issue but I was wondering if anyone had any tricks that might work? Today we're withholding the fruit at lunch and hoping he'll take more of that next bottle. Any other suggestions?

(I should add other than the congestion and teething he is still his same old happy self. And we called the dr on Sat night b/c he violently threw up the very little bit he took (I was concerned about dehydration) and he said it wasn't a worry, they go through phases. So I know I'm being neurotic but I hate that my unbelievably good eater is suddenly a eating like a bird.)

I wouldn't worry about it too much. But, if he likes eating the fruit, then you should give it to him. That may be the thing that makes him feel better!

I agree.

Babies go through phases with eating I wouldn't stress all that much. Also - could it be the nipple size? Maybe you need to move up a nipple?

Thank you for the reassurance! I figured I'd try the fruit thing for a day or two but if it doesn't immediately result in more fluid intake, I'll reintroduce it. He's still getting oatmeal in the morning and a veggie at night.

He's already on Level III, has been for some time. I actually am thinking it may be as much the congestion (if not more) than the teething - he can't breath well while drinking so I think he's made the decision that it's just not worth it.

I understand what you're going through...DS is doing the same thing right now and it's very frustrating when he refuses the bottle. I don't understand how he can cut his feeds in half and not be hungry. He used to love feeding time and now it's a fight to get a couple ounces in him each feed. I took him to the pediatrician the other day about this and they said they weren't concerned because he's still gaining weight appropriately. He's still happy and playful- just upset when it comes to feeding. Oh well...I hope this phase ends soon because it's harder on me than it is on him!
