im sorry about all that.... but i dont feel like he is a victim.... you stated you KNEW that this place has had a rash of break-ins, so much so that it was on the news.... and he continued to bring his wallet and ROLEX with him???? at 5am... leave that stuff either at home or in the car!!!!

i personally frequent the gym and make a point not to bring ANYTHING with me that i care about... the only things i bring are my keys and phone, both of which never leave my site....

again, im sorry and as long as he is ok then he came out a winner...

look on the bright side, at least they left the CCs and ID etc... you dont have to worry about ID Theft on top of all that!!!

While leaving the Rolex at home would probably have been a good idea, it sounds like he locked his stuff up....even if he didn't, he still is a victim of theft.

Sorry that happened to your DH...I hope they find the wedding ring, that would upset me too! Chat Icon Chat Icon

yes, sorry bad choice of words... he was a victim of a crime... i just cant feel THAT bad especially since its a known issue.

My husband leaves for work from the gym. He showers and gets dressed there. He brought his watch with him because he wears it when he goes to work. thats why. His stuff was locked up and hidden, this POS riffeled through his bag. My husband doesnt walk around flashing an expensive watch and ring. they are the only piece of jewelery he wears.

Whats there to debate?? Whether it was a rolex or a timex, or if I got his ring from a gumball machine? You cant have anything nice because some animal with no morals cant keep his hands to himself?? And if he locked the items in his car and they stole his car, is it his fault for having a car? Your logic makes no sense

ETA And one more time, he didnt walk in wearing these items, this person took the time to go through his bag and came upon the grand prize plain and simple. And the cops suspect the lifeguard at the pool.

I'm sorry but you're out of your mind...OF COURSE he is the VICTIM! Despite the break-ins in the gym, he put his stuff in a locker and LOCKED IT! It was a BREAK-IN and somebody violated his privacy and took his belongings...I don't know how can say that he is not the victim!

Oh my gosh, that's just awful. I really hope they find the person who did and your DH can get his stuff back, esp the wedding band, of course.

Personally if I knew my gym were having a rash of robberies, I'd leave my enagement ring at home on days when i was at the gym, even if meant not wearing it to work. But you live, you learn.

I really really hope you can get it back Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I agree with Sylvia. How can you say he wasn't a victim? There are robberies all over NYC or ANYWHERE every single day, does that mean that someoen shouldn't wear their watch or ring? You take that risk anywhere at any time. I think it really unfair to argue with the OP like that

Re: Hubby was robbed at the gym this morning

I'm so sorry this happened. I never leave anything of value in my lockers because the gym states that they are not responsible for items stolen. They do have a responsibility to help you prosecute the thief and bring his POS to justice.

He is a victim. Every single day we take precautions to make sure we are safe and our stuff is protected.

And to address Andrew's opinion, it's not his fault at all. That's just a fact. You are stating something that is not factual. He is the victim of a crime and big fat one at that. Makes no differences what he knew, he took the necessary precautions. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

To the OP, I hope this POS gets what he deserves and your property is recovered.

I also hope they up their security at this gym.

no one is kicking her while she is down... all i stated was my opinion on this whole subject...

FTR i never said it was his fault (re-read my posts)... i simply said i didnt feel he was a victim... which i then retracted and stated "he was a victim" that it was a bad choice of words...

Re: Hubby was robbed at the gym this morning

there shouldn't be a debate here.

fact is that someone took something that DID NOT belong to them. That's wrong PERIOD!

regardless of whether he had it on or whatever, it doesn't give anyone the reason to take what isn't theirs!

I'm so sorry stay! I pray he gets it back and that that scumbag gets caught!

This doesn't surprise me at all. It's a sad fact that the world has come to leaving all valuables at home in settings like this for this reason.

I hope they catch they person who did this. Chat Icon

It's pretty ballsy for someone to walk into a locker room with a lock cutter like that. I bet it's an employee that has studied what each member does when they come in that early in the morning.

it's awful that happened, but I can't help but think it was a very poor decision to bring a rolex to the gym where it's been known to have thefts. I hope you get the stuff back. I would start checking ebay and craigs list for them.

UGH! I'm so sorry! Luckily no one was hurt!

Ask the cops about this, but you might want to notify local pawn shops or anywhere that buys jewelry. These items should be very easy to identify -- All Rolex watches have serial numbers and the wedding band is engraved. Give descriptions to these places so they can identify the watch and/or ring should they come in the door.

I hope they find the robber and get your husband's things back.

ETF typo... well, the one I saw anyway. Chat Icon

Sorry this happened to you. I hope you bring this up to the gym and make sure they post warnings on the walls and in the locker rooms that there has been a recent outbreak of items stolen in the gym. Honestly I think theft is more common in gyms than most know about. This also just comes to show that nothing is safe anywhere. You can take all the precautions in the world to keep bad people away but they find ways in.

ITA I did something similar once and had my stuff stolen. I know how rotten it feels but I learned a lesson about protecting my valuables. In my case they got everything, money, the keys to my home, credit cards and ID. You feel very violated.

The fact that it happened at the gym will prob mean you have no financial recourse through them either. I know every gym I have ever been to has a policy where they are not responsible for lost or stolen items. Good luck, I hope at least the wedding band makes it's way back to you.

Re: Hubby was robbed at the gym this morning

The LA Fitness in Lake Success was also known for theft, at one point it was GPSs in cars. There were flyers posted everywhere to not leave them in your car. I think people like this robber watch people, if they are professional they may have seen your DH with the rolex on. He's definitely a vicitim and I hope he gets that and the wedding band back. I know he had the lock on but if I knew there were robberies at the gym, lock or not, I would not leave an $8000 watch in the locker.
