The 61 year old mom post got me thinking. I am curious what you all think.

I think it depends on the individual to be honest and the state of their health...

If u r healthy baby is healthy and ok by doc then go for it no matter what age

Its not necessarily the age re: wear/tear on the body, to me its about the time you get to spend with your child. I dont think its fair for a 10 yr old to not have a mother/father.

I think 45 is pushing it. That is my honest opinion. I do not mean to offend anyone. I think that to have a child after this is not fair to the child. Health problems begin as you get upwards in age and it is not fair for a child to see their parents sick at a young age. It is not fair for a child not to be able to play ball with their parent bc he/she is physically unable. Again, not all peoples health deteriorates as early as 45-50, but it is not the same as a 20-30 somethning. My opinion.

I see this as a woman's choice, so for me, 40 would be max, but I had both kids by 30, so actually that is my max LOL.

I don't have a strong opinion on right or wrong for someone else.

Didn't we just elect a president who was giving us control of our reproductive organs, if you can take care of a child and give it love and provi for it, there is no age limit. My moms best friend, same age as my mother, was pregnant at the same time that I was. Would I choose it for myself, no, but they are all happy, healthy and well taken care of. Her body, her choice.

It was taking me a long time to conceive and I decided that I would only try until I was 35. I did not want to be a first time mother any older than that. That being said, that was MY personal preference. I know people who became first time mothers in their 40s and love it. I think as long as you are willing to put 100% into raising the children you bring into this world and you're healthy, it's fine to give birth at any age.

It is definitely a personal decision and I can't speak for anyone but myself on this one... so for me personally? I told DH I would be willing to try to have children until I was 35-36. That is just because I know "us"... I can't see either of us nearing retirement and just starting to raise a child.

For someone else? Who knows... as long as the person is healthy and able to carry a pregnancy without danger to themselves or the baby and then put the 110% it takes to raise a child then I guess there is no real limit.

I believe if you are healthy and are able to provide and care for a child, then age shouldn't be an issue. It's a personal decision, and there isn't a right or wrong answer IMO. To each his own. As someone who is struggling with infertility for years, I can say that I will keep trying until I am able to have my child- whether that be now at 26, or when I'm in my 40's.

I would like to be done before 30 and would not TTC after 30 /31 MAX. That's just me, but I think people should try to have kids earlier rather than later. First, you have more stamina/ energy and your younger age makes it more likely that you will get more time with your children.

I agree with this...at a certain age you risk that child not having parents

I mean I understand the intent here, but wouldn't that be true at ANY age? I know statistically it's obvious that an older age at birth means perhaps less time with the child, but sickness and accidents still come into play at young ages kwim? I think having a child at ANY age, and under ANY circumstances, is an inherent leap of faith.

And I was an older mom (41) and definitely think I was too old for this shit (Pregnancy and newborn stuff = easy peasy. TODDLERHOOD might be the end of me )

For me personally, my cut off is 35. I already have two kids but if I do decide to have a third, I want to be pregnant by 34. If it doesn't happen, I won't have a third.
I have three cousins that have had or are having babies at 40 and 41.
So I would say after 42 is really pushing it. The age of 61 is just insane to me and not fair to the kids. I don't care how young she feels, she will not have the same energy as someone who is 28. I'm 32 and my two kids wipe me out.

My mom will be 60 in a few weeks and offered to be my surrogate. My doctor at the time said she was too old.

I plan on being done by the time I am 30, i'm 27 now and pg with #2, we are still undecided if we want more; FH and I talk about our plans for our future, traveling, retiring and this is what works for us. If God has other plans for us, than that is okay too.

personally, i'd like to be done by 30, but depending on how many we have that may not happen-so I've had to extend my personal "limit" to 35 tops because i want a large family
