How much did you spend on your DC's 1st birthday cake???
I want somethign nice and they are so expensive and part of me cant justify spending that much on a cake

We spent $40 on a Carvel cake. We needed the largest they had.
Peronally, I wouldn't spend alot on a cake.

My parents bought DS' 1st bday cake from a bakery...spent about $90.
Costco or BJs are very reasonable and have good cakes.
I have been using a friend to do our cakes ever since.

A lot. Over $200. She's a 12/25 baby, so I when I ordered the cake in AUGUST, I thought that was all I was going to do, then I threw a party AROUND the cake. I'm crazy.

$15 at costco. But they only have certain designs that are kinda eh looking.
We just did the balloon decorations one. Nothing fancy

Not sure how much I am going to spend. I am going back and forth between BJs and going to a bakery for something like the above!

I contacted her too, she does excellent work, but like a ton of places, the timing was bad. Some people even laughed at me when i called in August to ask for a birthday cake on 12/25. They were like "no way..." It would have to be picked up on 12/24 by noon, or they only did "holiday" baking, or just cookies etc.
My Poor Little Christmas DD.

I am not sure about NY, but there are some grocery stores in jersey that will give you there 1st bday cake free, you just need to show the birth cert.

I haven't yet, but I was tossing the idea around of making it.
I used to decorate cakes at Haagen Dazs and was thinking of maybe taking a glass.
I already know (and so does dh  ) how to pack one and decorate one.
I'd also make cupcakes, sort of like the ones I made for the great 06 get together. I think those turned out alright.
maybe Sylvia can answer that...she ate about a half dozen of them 
otherwise, I would SPEND. cake and food are more important to me than most other things. I want good high qualith ingredients and don't want to cheap out.

I agree. I think the actual birthday cake is a HUGE part of the party. Plus my sister is also a Christmas baby and she told me she never had nice cakes, blah blah, blah...she's 36...but I got her one too...
Not the greatest pic. It actually had tufted buttons on top and was very sparkly.
