How do I plead down a speeding ticket? UPDATED

I got a ticket on SSP (71mph Chat Icon). It has an appearance date for next week so I was going to appear and hope to talk to the DA about pleading guilty to a lesser/non moving violation.

Has anyone done this? How do I approach the DA?

any advice would be appreciated!

UPDATE:
They knocked it down to failure to signal. Its still 2pts (rather than 4), but its out of the speeding category.

I was in and out in 1.5 hours - not so bad!

Yes and I got it down to seat belt, which is still good, not a moving violation.

One you show uo, the DA will try to help you. Esp if its your only ticket.

For me, it was like my 3rd Chat Icon
I had to pay $500 in fines.

I've been to court in Suffolk a couple times, and it didn't seem like they lessened the charges in Suffolk at all. I've heard Nassau is a bit easier. In Suffolk it seems your only chance is hoping that the cop doesn't show for 2 court dates, in which case it gets thrown away.

Just show up at court. Know that you will be there for a couple of hours (I was just there last week for an illegal lane change). Once there the DA will want to work with you.

It's very easy. I've gotten a ticket twice in Nassau. Once you go, you will see how easy it is to plead down. The DA will do all the work for you. Get there on time, and plan to be there for about 2 hours. The DA will consult with you for a few minutes and then you will briefly meet with the judge. When they plead down your case, you proceed to the pay counter and then you are done.

I have had a few speeding tickets while down here and showed up for each court date and got them torn up by the judge. Lucky I guess or the cops are idiots down here (no offense to GA cops)

I usually wear business casual (b/c I go from court to the office) but people wear all kinds of things to their appearances!
