home audio system questions

anyone familiar with this? we have speakers in the ceilings that dh set up to the computer through my old stereo. all of our music is on the computer so we need something that can send the music to the speakers throughout the house. do we need an amplifier to hook into the computer and then put the speaker wires into that? i'm not really sure what we need since we blew my old stereo. it worked for a while but then started humming. TIA

We have a russound multi room audio system.
The model is called sphere
It hooks into the computer and is controlled through touch screens. It also works with your ipod as well, and has sirius on it as well.

I would purchase a receiver (small with a little power) Take the output of the computer or any other devices and input them into the receiver. Your existing speakers will hook up to the new receiver. Your all set.

In a sense, you are replacing your old stereo.
