Hochul and midterm elections.
So what does everyone think she is going to do with her mandates….
Loosen up so the democrats have a chance of winning.
Or go crazy before she is out?
I thought she was going to loosen up but I think Blakeman most likely has her enraged and she’s going to come out Guns blazing because he’s going against her.
It’s going to be an interesting year.

I do not think she will let up at all. She thinks she has a strong base supporting her who want to keep the mandates but she is wrong. I think for certain Cuomo is coming back to run since all his charges were dropped and he'll go with the "they were out to get me" campaign.

Hochul and midterm elections.
She is saying she's dropping the mask mandate next month. And is expecting schools to follow.
The only mandate for vaccines that is statewide right now is for healthcare workers I believe, all of the other mandates are city based (I think Rochester has them as well as NYC).
I'm not sure we are in the clear for no vaccine mandates for schools though as she's not happy with where vaccinations stand for those 5-11 right now. There have been more articles about increases in hospitalizations amongst those under 11 related to Covid... But, since anyone can get the current strains of Covid, both vaxxed and unvaxxed, I'm not sure what direction she is going to go in.
ETA - I don't think Cuomo will run. I think Hochul will run and win as it's very seldom a Republican wins in NYS. She has the endorsement of the UFOA as she signed the three year average bill which benefits their salary base for retirement.

The statewide vaccination rate for 5-11 is only 25%. It's higher than average on LI, Westchester and NYC (because you can't do anything in NYC without it for the most part). I think she feels that it impacts the severity in children as 91% those hospitalized right now for Covid in that age group are unvaccinated, in the sample used, 64% were hospitalized for Covid only while 36% were in for other reasons).
Rockland where I am is below average (not surprising as there is a large Hasidic population who make up a good chunk of the overall population and don't vaccinate for anything).

Exactly. My child was in the PICU twice and it was always filled up. I wouldn't doubt that these children did not come in with just covid and the reason they are there are for other issues.
How many children are dying? They are just looking at hospitalization rates which they have established that a hospital can not run with less than 85% filled so they throw out these numbers for people who have NO clue and they think OMG they are packed with covid patients and they are all just dying.

I agree the article was somewhat misleading. But it was the first article that actually had some stats in it. They said 64% were admitted for covid, while 36% were in for other reasons. In re-reading - the data is from earlier in the month when cases were skyrocketing - not now. So they are analyzing older data.
The mask mandate is expected to end on 2/1 and she expects schools to end their mandates then too so we shall see (unless it is extended).

Knowing how much these people love extending their authoritative powers, I doubt she will indeed end it all but we shall see. Also I find quiet interesting that those stats point out how children are being hospitalized for covid -now that vaccination rate for children is so low- but this wasn’t happening before the vaccine for kids came into the picture? I’m very skeptical of this.
