Help to bring on labor?

I just posted about being induced and being worried about it.

Any suggestions on how to get this labor started? I am 40 weeks on Wed. 3cm and 90% effaced as of last Wed. with sporadic contractions.

I have tried spicy foods, sex, walking...

Re: Help to bring on labor?

I've heard mineral oil and also an enema would help. I have nothing from experience though b/c I have another 2 1/2 weeks to go. Good luck and let us know what works for you! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

keep some nice cushiony TP around if you're going to try the castor oil.

The intestinal cramping stimulates the uterus to begin contracting...

shoot, you already tried everything I could think of Chat Icon

I would advise you to not do the enema or castor oil w/o first getting the Dr's thumbs up....

Please Please don't try this until you have spoken with your physician.

According to Wiki, there has been much debate over whether taking castor oil to induce labor will cause the baby to have its first bowel movement in the womb before birth. This pre-birth bowel movement, called meconium, can be dangerous, because if baby inhales some of it it can cause pneumonia in the lungs. Meconium is also a widely-held signal that the baby is in some sort of distress.

The other problem is that you can cramp and have diarrhea all during labor and birth. Not pretty.

Re: Help to bring on labor?

Personally for me nothing had worked and I just waited until the baby was ready. I don't really believe in them since the night before DD was born I did not do anything to try to bring on labor. I just went about my normal day that day and work up at 5:30 in the morning in full labor.

I will say that I did hear about the nipple thing and many people I know swear by it.

Yes, definitely check with your provider before trying this. When I got to 41w3d I was desperate to avoid an induction in the hospital and did this only with my midwife's suggestion. It's not the answer for everyone.

You're so close! Your DC will come out when he/she is ready to meet you! It will be worth the wait!
