Help DH and I settle a debate over couches for our family room...With Poll
He wants these reclining couches. Now, to be honest, they are very comfy and have four recliners that go all the way back, but I find them kind of ugly.
I was thinking something more like this, but there are no recliners. Will I regret it when we are in there for hours watching a movie?

I'm sure the recliners are comfy but they're not my style. Also, I knew someone who had a couch with recliners in it and it was very uncomfortable if you wanted to stretch out and lay across the couch instead of sitting up.

I vote for recliners but not those. I would look for maybe a leather sectional with recliners on each end and in a dark color like the sectional you posted.

I voted sectional. We had a leather set like the one you posted it, and I just hated it. It was comfortable, definitely, but I didn't like the way it looked.
Now we have a sectional with a chaise on one and and something called a "cuddler" on the other end. It's awesome. It's just DH and I but we have so much space when we're watching tv, it's ridiculous.

recliners are not my style so I would vote for sectional-although I really prefer traditional type sofas.

Recliners are not my style and everyone who I know who has them, the recliner mechanism broke after 2 years. So I would get the other one you posted.

I have a sectional... one part of it has 2 recliners with a cubby in the middle... then theres a corner piece... and then a reg couch that has a queen sized bed in it... so 6 seats in all... 2 are recliners... and the 3 seater couch can be laid down on... we love the setup... its a little bit of everything....

I hate the first ones you posted. Had them years ago and never again. Dont let your dh WIN this one! Those also feel crappy in the recliner seat as time goes on.

I'm not a fan of the recliner inthe couch. I have a recliner, it's from Ikea and matches my couch.

I personally do not like sectionals i feel like you cant change the room around at all. You are just stuck with it one way
My parents have one similar to the 2nd coach you posted and it is big and sticks out and is in the way. Id rather have ones that recline.

I agree. I don't really like the look of recliners. I love my sectional! Best piece of furniture we ever got!

ugh what is with men and these kind of couches lol
I just went through this and ended up giving in. My husband wanted 2 recliner couches with cup holders for the basement and I hated them but I have to admit they are very comfy lol

EXACTLY. My husband pushed me into reclining systems TWO times now. Both broke fairly quickly and they are either UP forever or have to be forced down. Yes - it's comfortable but I won't buy it again. Next time it will be a traditional set with a nice ottoman for his tootsies.

My husband suckered me into getting a set with 3 recliners in it and I HATE IT! They arent that comfy when reclined and I cant wait until we have to get another set. It will definitely be a sectional and DH can kiss my booty!

We have a sectional with 3 recliners in it. When we first got it I never used the recliner. Although having a sectional is great because unlike our other couches we can both lay down comfortably on it to watch a movie. Now we both use the recliners alot, but I still prefer to lay down on the couch.
So I say the sectional BUT if you do decide on teh couches just make sure both of you can lay on the. in our other set the arms are too high and then the small sofa is too small for even me (5'4) to get comfy on.
ETA: We have had our sectional for 5 years and 2 of the 3 recliners are used every day and we have no issues with them. Ours is Lane furniture and we bought it at JCP.

I don't like the look of the first set, but I do have a couch with 2 recliners in it and love it. DH & I use them every night. We have them in our family room, so it's not a formal living room. We've had the same set for 4.5 years now and it's in great shape and all the recliners work.
I do not love couches with pillows that come off - I find they lose shape and never stay put! I'm not sure if that's what's on the sectional. If DH doesn't love the sectional, keep looking. You can probably find a nice sectional with a recliner and you both get what you like!!

I love the couches with the recliners. I've never had any problem with them.
Though -- I'd really just prefer a regular sofa with a recliner in the room as well.

I have a sectional now and feel the same way. It can only go in one place and so when we do it all over again, we are getting two pieces.
