Help! Cat Adoption Question!

ok- so I am adpoting a kitten from the girl on LIW that found them in her garage

1 issue- she can't tell which is a boy and which is a girl

I need a girl, I have an Alpha Male cat already

any tips on how I can tell? I don't want to bring a boy home, fall in love and upset my other cat

TIA!

It should be pretty obvious - boys have, well, little boys under the tail Chat Icon

Here's a good site for you:

Re: Help! Cat Adoption Question!

At that age, it's VERY difficult to tell even when looking under the tail. As kittens, males and females look VERY similar (it's not like dogs at all) as the males' testes haven't descended yet.

My sister found her cat as a baby and the vet said "girl". Months later, she scheduled Hamburger for a spay and the vet techs looked at her like she was crazy. Hamburger was actually a boy (by then his testicles were pretty visible- she thought they were "knots").Chat Icon

Make sure you have someone who is very trained at what to look for if it's that important to get a female.

ETA: I saw the pictures, it looks like one of those babies is a pastel calico- that one is definitely a girl as all calicos are female.
