Heart palpitations???? I am worrying....

I have been getting these for the last couple of weeks and they are becoming more frequent. I spoke to doc and she said, as I had known already, that these as well as faster pulse rate are common symptoms during pregnancy.

What is bothering me is the frequency of the palpitations. They are becoming more noticable and "harder" than normal heart flutters I have experienced.

I should say that I do have a history of really bad anxiety.Chat Icon I have experienced palpitations( before pregnancy) that scared me enough to go to the emergency room. I even had an echo done last year that came back normal. I have been pretty good so far in this pregnancy, but I am beginning to freak out more about my health, the health of the baby, any other worries etc.......

Can someone assure me that this is normal and may be caused by my anxiety? I am starting to freak out and I am worried about returning to work next week.Chat Icon

i used to get them every so often, and i get them more now that i am PG. if i rest and take a drink of water, it goes away and i feel fine.

if you are worried, have your dr. send you for an EKG to ease your mind. Chat Icon

I was getting them towards the end for a couple of weeks and it would make me so anxious feeling. MyOB could not find anything so since they wound up stopping the were not concerned.

I personally haven't experienced them, but then again, I'm only 17 weeks...

Since you once had an anxiety disorder and having a baby is rather stressful, maybe you should take a bit of time out for yourself everyday and do something quiet and meditative... just to help keep yourself calm and at peace?

Have you had your thyroid levels checked? They can get wacky during PG and palpitations can be a symptom.

I had that happen for a period of time during my pg at around the 5 month mark (approx.?) and I stayed home from work because I really wasn't feeling well. I called my cardiologist and he told me this was normal to feel this way at that point of my pregnancy because of all the extra blood my body was producing and that it should go away by such-and-such time (I can't remember exactly sorry) maybe 6 months or so. And he was right it didn't last it was only temporary. I drank a lot more water and layed on my left side instead of on my back and it seemed to help. I don't have the problem at all now... knock on wood. I remember thinking I can't go through the rest of my pg feeling like this. Chat Icon If you've been checked out and had an echo and everything comes back normal I'm sure you and your baby are fine! It's not fun, but it will pass. Good luck!Chat Icon
