Has anyone switched from Optimum to Fios...

... and then switched back?

We switched to FIOS a couple of weeks ago and Optimum came by today to try to win us back - with what seems like a good offer. I'm happy so far with FIOS, I haven't had much of a chance to try it out though(we've had it less than a month). It seems like we get more though from FIOS than from Optimum (more hi-def channels I'd actually want to watch at least and wireless internet). The only thing we're losing is the news 12 channels and the caller id that pops up on the tv (DH is really missing that).

Thanks!

Did you get FIOS multiroom DVR for free? And I think some of the movies channels are free until the end of the year...

What did CV promise you?

I am not sure about the multiroom dvr for free but, we did get some movie channels for free until the end of the year (which would get us equal to the Cablevision silver package).

Cablevision said $120/year for the first year and then $130 in year two. We'd get free boxes in the first year and they'd pay our cancellation fee for FIOS.

We haven't gotten our FIOS bill yet but, I think it's similarly priced for the service we signed up for.

That's what they did to us - and DH, willing to hear everything - agreed to set an appointment.

I hadn't heard of anyone switching back and I'm happy with FIOS for the short time I have had it so I think we're going to stay.

Re: Has anyone switched from Optimum to Fios...

I know people that have switched back to CV from FIOS based on the fact that FIOS CS is horrible and that CV doesnt lock you into any contract obligations.

I for one hate being locked down to one company. He bothers me a lot.

Re: Has anyone switched from Optimum to Fios...

the only thing that bothers me about Fios is that the multiroom DVR only works for non-HD boxes - if you have HD boxes for the HD TV's it's not available (stupid Chat Icon)

i don't think i would ever switch back to cable - Fios just has so many more HD channels, which is important to us, and we haven't had any service problems with them (yet - it's been about 8 weeks). plus i don't know if it was just coincidence, but the installers from Fios were SO much better and more experienced than any installer from cablevision that i have ever met. they really knew what they were doing - and even fixed some of the mess that cablevision had left behind (like cable wires coming in thru the window. who does that???)

I guess its different for everyone because my CV installer was awesome, he tacked the cable to the wall so that there arent cables all over the place, he installed an extra signal booster without me asking, and he made sure that everything was working the way it should. He was there for over an hour.

Someone mentioned that you cant see who is calling on your TV like you can with CV.......that alone would bother me. Sometimes I just dont wanna talk to certain people so if I see who is calling on my TV I dont have to get up and grab the phone to see who it is and then just put it back down if I dont wanna talk to them.
