We love halloween and i've been dying to get the stuff for DD's costume but afraid it's not gonna happen this year :( Do you think halloween will be cancelled?

Doubt it'll be "officially" cancelled, but I've already heard about what some people are doing locally - some are doing neighborhood parades, some are doing scavenger hunts in their back yards, etc. Just depends on what people are going to be comfortable with.

I don't think anyone can really cancel Halloween.

TBH, I think trick or treating is a fairly safe activity. It's outside, you can wear masks and it's not too hard to social distance. Candy can be left outside or the people giving it out can stay outside.

It's a Saturday and I bet people will be having parties and get togethers with their friends instead of ToT

It's my 40th birthday and it took us forever to book a place

I won’t be taking my three kids. Undecided if I’ll leave a bucket out.

Not sure yet if we’re going trick or treating or just having some friends over for a driveway party. Either way, I’m still getting DD a costume. She already knows what she wants to dress up as.

Re: halloween

i don't have little ones, but i'm still planning to hand out candy. i'm just not sure on the logistics to make parents feel comfortable.

the things i've been thinking about are:
* leaving candy out... in a bowl
* pre-packaging them and having them out for the kids to take one each
* wearing a funny mask and gloves to hand it out

i truly enjoy watching little ones in their costumes. i hope my neighborhood still has trick or treating.

halloween

It’s a Saturday so we plan to drive our kids to our parents, siblings, trusted friends houses.
Then maybe we’ll just take a walk around the neighborhood in their costumes.

I dont know why this is such a debate. I dont even see what the risk is for kids to go trick o treating??!

what am i missing here?

they say you can get it off of surfaces so why are people nervous?? If anything if makes you feel better have them trick o treat with masks on then?

I really am so confused why this would cause any more risks that what we are all are dong now

Even with masks, i in no way feel comfortable having my kids walk up to a house, ring a doorbell, and then take candy from someone. Nor do i feel comfortable handing it out.

can i ask do you not go out and do anything??

Not being snarky but really doing anything can technically be risk of catching covid.

i obviously will not let me kids eat any of the candy till we get home and will probably have them use hand sanitizer after a little bit!

i dont know i guess since we have gone on vacation and my kids play with friends, went to camp, DD is back at her cheer gym I cant see how trick o treating is any riskier

Not to mention they'll be back in school by then so...
I would feel horrible making my daughter sit home while all her friends trick or treat. The kids have lost enough this year.
But then again, I should have been dead months ago with my lack of fear so.....Chat Icon

Quite honestly no, not much. We do go to grandparents, who are taking just as many precautions. The riskiest thing I’ve let them do is play softball and soccer. Masks are worn on and off the field, coaches have masks on. I stay FAR away from any other people and wear a mask the entire time. As soon as we get home clothes are changed and the kids shower.

She’s had three play dates, one kid at a time, outdoors only-not even indoors for bathroom or anything.

My kids have each physically gone in one place each since March. I’ve physically gone inside a building i believe a total of 9 times now, including grocery stores.

I’ve done a few outdoors activities with my kids. We went to a farm today, but were never closer than maybe 40 feet from other people. I haven’t taken them anywhere that may be crowded. I’ll take them to playgrounds, but only if the playground is empty, and we stop often to sanitize.

My oldest is going full time to school in a few weeks, and obviously I’m nervous. I’ve been very involved with knowing procedures and such though.

ETA: were planning a fun day for Halloween. My kids will wear costumes, I’m setting up different stations around for my kids and niece/nephew with candy, games and activities. They won’t be deprived lol

I don't think it will be cancelled by the State if that's what you mean, but I do think it is rude for people to take their kids trick or treating this year. And you can bash me all you want. It's my opinion, which I get to have. I will not be opening my door to trick or treaters and neither are most people that I spoke to. Actually this just came up in conversation in the office the other day. I can't imagine exposing myself willingly to all those strange kids who will be back in school.

I haven't decided yet what we are doing. There are about four houses on our block that all feel comfortable socializing with each other. We have been getting together with the kids all summer, the kids go to school together. I think we may just have a little Halloween get together with them, with costumes, candy, and games, but no trick or treating.

ETA not sure I would call it rude though. We probably won't buy any candy to hand out and just won't open the door to anyone who rings the bell. If there are people who want to take their kids, and people who want to hand out candy, why not?

I already spoke to a couple parents in my neighborhood and we are all going out trick or treating. A lot of people leave buckets out already. These kids have suffered enough, If school is open than Halloween can happen.

Where and from whom did you hear that COVID cannot transmitted from contaminated surfaces?

Well at first they were saying it stayed on surfaces much longer than what they actually found to be true

I feel like Halloween isn’t the same as it used to be when we were younger. I def want my kids to dress up and knock on my neighbors doors (even if that means they’re wearing masks and I’m cleaning all the wrappers off). I doubt there will be trunk or treats happening at the schools this year. We’ll just have to make the best of this situation for our kids.

We will be doing Halloween. Both handing out candy, and trick or treating. If anyone doesn’t want to answer the door that’s totally cool.

We will be doing Halloween. But, I'm also the mom that in every previous Halloween, has her kids wash hands before eating candy once we return, and after I inspect the candy. I also sanitize them periodically while trick or treating. So, we are trained for this. It's our moment Chat Icon
