Gripe water AND Mylicon????? at the same time????

for those that use both of these items, can they be given within the same or similar time frame or not.

I've been putting Mylicon in Lucian's bottles, but his gas pains have been off the hook today.

I am switching formula and trying to give him as must breast as I possibly can...but I want to know if it's ok to give him Gripe Water even if he's been getting the mylicon all day.

I called my ped, but the office is closed. I am trying to research online as well, but thought I'd get some BTDT opinions.

TIA. please help me help my lil man. Chat Icon

How much milk products are you taking in?

not the answer to your question...but if you had a lot of dairy or soy today and he's worse then norm, then you may be on to something.

not sure what point in the game you are in, but don't hesistate taking a poopy diaper to dr to just drop it off. I never needed an appt. They test for blood in the office.

Re: Gripe water AND Mylicon????? at the same time????

I know the mylicon drops do not ever get dissovled in their systems so that is why you can give it at every bottle etc.

I have given both at the same time and not even thought twice about it.

Re: Gripe water AND Mylicon????? at the same time????

You can def give both....the Gripe Water is all natural too so you can give that as much as you want. Gripe Water always worked best for DS.

Also, have you tried switching formulas to Enfamil Gentlease...it's a partially hydrolized formula, the milk proteins are mostly broken down already (more similar to BM). It's easier to digest for them....alot of babies don't do well on standard enfamil or similac because it's too complex for their immature GI tracts. And as another pp said, drop off a poopy diaper at your peds office so they can test him for a milk allergy....it's super common and if he has one it just means you'll have to go on a dairy free diet if you continue bfing and switch formulas as well to a lactose free one. I'm this way for DS. Any questions, please feel free to FM me...DS has been through the ringer with GI issues and see a great ped GI specialist at Columbia. Hang in there, it'll get better! I gave up all milk products on Tuesday. I am normally a HUGE cheese eater, and milk drinker (well, in my cereal) and stopped eating it when he was inconsolable the other night.

it's only been 3 days without dairy, but he's still very gassy and in pain. I am going to start Gentlease STAT. I just gave him the last of my breast milk. he took 1 oz from the breast and 2.5 pumped. I am Chat Icon I produce more before he gets hungry again...and that DH makes it here with the Gentlease.

if nothing changes with the Gentlease, I will go to a dairy free formula.

I am going to call the ped tomorrow to see what she says...his poop doesn't seem to have changed much to me...mustardy yellow and mushy...with a slightly sweet..slightly not so much odor Chat Icon Chat Icon

It will around 2 weeks for the dairy to leave your system so hang in there for a little bit....and keep him on the gentlease until you're sure that he has a milk allergy or not. It effs with their systems to change their formula too often in a too short period of time. It can take a couple weeks (at least a week) for a new formula to kick in also so don't expect results right away. If he has a milk allergy his poop may be more mucousy and when they test it there will be blood. You can't see the blood, it's like microscopic tinges of it so they have a little litmus type thing they stick they stick in the poop to see if there's blood.

Re: Gripe water AND Mylicon????? at the same time????

You are too far for me to show you but you can also do some little belly massages (clockwise!).

Or do the bicycles with this legs.

An easy one is to bring his knees to his chest/belly. Make sure not to hold his legs by the knee joint.

It won't do miracles but it will help with the gas a bit.

Now, your diet and formula even changed overnight, you will have to wait for a few days to see if it works. It's not instant!

Re: Gripe water AND Mylicon????? at the same time????

thanks everyone.

I will definitely give everything time to work. I even hesitated with switching the formula until I had been dairy free for a week, but today he was crying out. and yesterday he had a bowel movement that went from HARD to his regular soft consistency to watery. and I believe that happened b/c he was given a bottle of JUST formula by my niece accidently.

I will also have his poopy tested.

I would never have thought of that so thank you.

Re: Gripe water AND Mylicon????? at the same time????

aww, poor little man. Sounds like my little guy at the beginning.

I used mylicon and gripe water. I used the mylicon around nursing time and the gripe water in between.

You'll get through this! Chat Icon

eta: i had to go off dairy too and it took a solid week to notice any difference, and the difference was minimal in our case.

Re: Gripe water AND Mylicon????? at the same time????

Chat Icon don't go soy crazy either.
switch to rice milk for cereal.

most with a protein allergy are allergic to both.

it took 4 days to get out of his system.

his diapers were mustardy..and normal, then one day at maybe 4 weeks changed.

Re: Gripe water AND Mylicon????? at the same time????

Try to buy the gripe water at Whole Foods or a natural foods store. I always used both together. I also used to use a microwave heating pad for my kids. It totally helped them. My Dr suggested it and I read many other BTDT Mom's stories online.

If it is a milk allergy it can take 4-6 weeks to get dairy out of your system so you may not see an improvement right away. Also not sure if you know about this but dairy actually can cut up their little intestines and it takes time for that to heal as well. I went through the same thing and at 12 weeks we found out my baby had a dairy allergy and he was great once we went to amino acid formulaChat Icon

I only use Mylcon drops. When I asked my doctor the same question, she said not to give both at the same time. Use one or the other.

My DS had the same problem and it was a dairy allergy. He had bad gas, painful spitting up, and had mucousy poops that smelled awful. I eliminated all dairy from my diet, even food with very small amounts and it took about a week to see some improvement.
