Getting a real tree?

It's our first year in getting a real tree for Christmas.

How much does it generally cost (figure a 6') and what is the maintenance/care like?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: Getting a real tree?

My In-Law's used to get one every year but recently decided to go with faux. Anywho, they spent anywhere from 75-100 dollars. They did, however, get a large tree (about 9-10 feet). They had tall ceilings. From what I understand they usually start at around 30-40 dollars for a 6-7 foot tree. My boss got a 7 foot for 45 dollars. HTH!

You can expect to get one for around $50-$80. All you really have do to maintain it is refill the bottom with fresh water every 2 days.

The only thing that I dont like about real trees is that Its hard hanging some of my ornaments since the branches are obviously not as strong as the fake trees. Your house will always smell great though Chat Icon

Re: Getting a real tree?

THe last few years we have gone to Home Depot and it has been no more then $40 (probably even less) for a 6-7 foot tree.

We usually have it by now but are waiting until Friday. The tree usually stays good until New Years when it comes down.

Around your way they go for 35-55...I was quoted 45 for a 6.5 ft. tree.

ETA: To maintain, just check that the tree has water at all times and don't put it in an area by the heater bc you'll have no tree by Christmas. I love how the real tree smell fills up the house...it smells so ChristmasyChat Icon

Re: Getting a real tree?

We got ours at Home Depot this weekend. It's in our garage right now in a bucket of water with the tree "preservative" solution (similar to the little packets that come with fresh flowers). We'll let it soak until this coming weekend (it will be well hydrated by then) and then put it up, keeping it watered every other day until we take it down. My parents do the same and most years, the trees lasted quite well into January to the Epiphany.

Good luck!
