FTWM: Playing outside after work...how do you have time to...

Get dinner (for DS) bath and bedtime.. ON TIME!!

John loves to stay out after daycare...so before we step foot inside the house..we are in his radio flyer and at the park.. the other day we didn't get in the house until 6:30.

John goes to bed at 7:30!! So we need to get John dinner (we'll eat after) bath and windng down all in an a hour!!Chat Icon

are you guys pushing back bedtime???

I feel like it's a good thing to be out so Im not sure If i should limit the time out or just push back bedtime...and baths are MUST everyday now instead of every other b/c of the sunscreen..

what's everyone doing?

Re: FTWM: Playing outside after work...how do you have time to...

I cook ahead so I just have to heat something up most days-take 5 minutes.

I am all business when it comes to bath time too-5 minutes.

Sometimes I'll bathe DS while dinner is heating up. He is in his jammies for dinner (or in a diaper if dinner looks to be a little messy).

DS goes to bed between 7 and 7:30, within 1.5 hours of being home usually.

Or, what we did with DD and should start doing again, is having outside time after dinner.

We would do dinner, bath and jammies and then go for a walk (DD in her jammies in the stroller). Definitely would wind him down for the night.

We don't put DS to sleep until 8:30pm. That has always been his bedtime. Maybe it's selfish, but I would never do a 7:30pm bedtime because we would never get to spend time together during the week. My mom always said the same thing when her kids were little that she didn't care what people said, she was keeping her kids up later because she was a FTWM and wanted to spend time with us.

I don't. Chat Icon Or, DH takes the kids out and gives them baths while I cook, clean, do laundry, etc. It's completely impossible for me to do it all while working.

Ian eats his dinner at daycare. I pick him up at 6. We stay outside for about 15-20 minutes and then its bath and bed. Chat Icon not much time.

Re: FTWM: Playing outside after work...how do you have time to...

i always keep my kids up a bit later especially during the summer. he will just take a longer nap. when i go back to work in September, bedtime will be around 830 or 9. unless, his crankiness forces me to put them to bed earlier. he still naps 2 hrs most days, at least 1.5 and sometimes even 3 hours...so it is fine.

I get home from work early BUT I have to say that even if I wanted to put DD down later, she wouldnt make it LOL

Last night, I decided to change her into lighter PJs - and she screamed for the extra five minutes it took me to get them on!

She has to be snoring by 8PM or she is a lunatic.

Travis goes to bed at 830, so we have a little more time. When we get home , the 1st thing i do is prep dinner. I try to cook a ton of 30 minute meals. ( i usually get home around 530-6pm)

Once dinner is in the oven we are outside playing. Luckily Dh gets home around 630-645pm so dh will stay outside with him, if I still need to finish up dinner. As of now we have even been eating dinner outside on our deck. We let Travis play until 745-800pm. Then we start bath and bed time routine.

ETA: Now that its super nice, i should say we have been bbq alot more often. So we are outside at the same exact time.

Re: FTWM: Playing outside after work...how do you have time to...

I have found that her bedtime has been pushed later. She now goes down between 7-8 instead of 7 sharp, depending on how tired she is and how long we are outside.
I do a combo of what PP do. Play outside with her until DH comes home at 5:30, run in and make dinner while they play, eat and then its either back outside or in for the night.
I also am no-nonsense with the bath- in and out if we are crunched for time. Generally though, yes, she is staying up later just cuz it makes it easier for me!

If he can handle it, I would push his bedtime 30 minutes.

My DS is a sleeper and it wouldn't fly, but DD can handle that a lot better.

When I was a FTWM, when it was nice weather:

1. bathes were not every night. On bath night, they were short bathes.

2. prepared dinners the night before & popped things in oven before playing. or used crock pot.

3. and bedtime generally got later as time went on & he got older. By his 2nd summer at 2 years old, 8:30 was normal bedtime so it was easier!

My DD is the SAME way...if she is tired, it's HOLY HELLLLL!
I can say I want to keep her up later to spend more time with her, etc...but she is not having it.
If she's tired, she needs to sleep, period.

When I pushed Joey's, he passes out now and sleeps until 7!!! (which is huge for us haha).
It's only a half hour, I'd give it a try!

ETA - there are days that I still put him to bed at 7 b/c he's a beast lol. So on the days you are running a little over, just let it be!

Why not try a 15 minute push back and if that is going well, and not messing up this schedule, then once that is ok, then push it back the other 15 minutes. So you will then get that extra 30 minutes.

Re: FTWM: Playing outside after work...how do you have time to...

I don't really cook and Mason's eating issues makes it difficult to cook for him anyway.
We get home at 5 and he usually eats right away. We go straight outside after and play for about a 1/2 hour to an hour. Depending.
DH usually gives him a bath around 6:30 - 6:45 and then we do books and he's in his crib around 7ish or a little later

I do some cleaning after DS goes to bed. DH does the laundry and all the outside yardwork. DH and I will eat after Mason goes to bed around 7:30ish.
