Holy Sh!t!

Terrified rock star Courtney Love today told how her car was smashed up and her driver 'taken hostage' after getting caught up in violent demonstrations in Paris.
The 50-year-old actress and singer tweeted pictures and videos from inside her taxi after it was attacked by cabbies protesting against rival firm Uber.
She said: 'They've ambushed our car and are holding our driver hostage. They're beating the cars with metal bats. This is France?? I'm safer in Baghdad.'
Her car was attacked shortly after she landed at Charles de Gaulle airport this morning as mobs of taxi drivers blockaded roads and targeted Uber drivers, even flipping some of their cars over.
The widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain tweeted rapper Kanye West saying: 'We may turn back to the airport and hide out with you.'

Love then launched a furious attack on the French president over the lack of a police response.
She tweeted: 'François Hollande where are the f****** police??? Is it legal for your people to attack visitors? Get your a** to the airport. Wtf???'
The former Hole frontwoman later posted a video on Instagram showing several intimidating men surrounding her vehicle at a petrol station.

She wrote: 'How on earth are these people allowed to do this? The first car was destroyed, all tires slashed and beat with bats.
'These guys trying to open the doors and the cops are doing nothing?? French Taliban? Civil reform needed in France?? I want to go home.'

Love said she eventually managed to escape by catching a lift with two motorcyclists, but not before being attacked with rocks. She posted this picture with the message: 'We got out after being held hostage for an hour thanks to these two guys. I'm scared out of my wits'

The license plate is German. Why are they attacking German cars if the protest is with French taxi drivers?

Uber is a new way to order a taxi. You download the app on your phone and create an account including a credit card for billing. When you need a car, you request one at your location and one of the Uber drivers in the area is sent to pick you up. It's supposed to be safer for both the driver and passenger since they both have accounts and are more easily trackable. Also, no actual money is involved so there's less chance of a robbery. I don't think an Uber driver needs a TLC license in NY- it seems like you just apply to be an Uber driver and use your own personal car. But I could be wrong about that.

But I was reading other articles about these riots and it's insane. I'm glad she's okay- that's terrifying.

How did they even know she was in an Uber car and not just a private taxi? Maybe the plates are different?

ETA: I love using Uber- it's crazy fast and the drivers I've had have all been so pleasant. The cars clean and comfy. Usually they have a car to you in under 5 minutes since there are SO many Uber drivers around. Though it is a bit more expensive than a regular cab.

This is what I'm trying to figure out. They aren't even French plates-- they are German. It doesn't make any sense to me.

So scary! I'm glad she's okay. She posted about it on FB earlier. Poor Courtney!

I'm confused too about the German plates. :-/ Maybe those photos aren't even of the car she was in?

As for Uber, the ones I have taken have a little Uber sign in the window so maybe it's the same over there and that's who they knew it was an Uber.

There are uber riots in London too. However not violent. It's the cab drivers that are freaking out Bc uber is taking away their business and livihood.

Side note not specially Bc of this but I am scared of France in general now.

I assume they know it's an Uber cab b/c they have to have a sign in the window (otherwise, passengers wouldn't know it's an official car to get into). We used an Uber driver this past weekend in the city and he was telling us all kinds of stuff (mostly business stuff that I didn't understand). A lot of city cab drivers are quitting taxis and working for Uber b/c they can make more money. A taxi driver can only work 12 hour shifts b/c the car then goes to someone else. Uber can work longer hours if they choose. Uber also gives them better deals on cars (it's a higher rate if you're taxi).

I didn't find that our trip was more expensive than if we had taken a cab (Rockefeller Center to Penn Station was $10). You don't get charged by the minute, which is nice if you're stuck in traffic, and the price is quoted to you up front.
