My district is using the home tests for test to stay so it’s nice to have them. They will also accept a positive antigen test and do not require PCR tests any longer.
It’s amazing how the rules differ by county. We are not doing test to stay and still need a negative PCR if showing symptoms to return.
ETA - I signed up, I’m curious as to when they expire and how long it will actually take for them to arrive.

Pretty sure my district will be accepting them to for the test to stay also so I signed up so I can have them. Plus who knows what may require a negative test to enter soon.
Though I do agree with others that obviously it’s easy to fake a negative or even a positive! But whatever if they’re going to take home test might as well have them on hand and they are free so why not??!!

Right? I find it odd that a company would be like, yeah, you can use a home test even though we have NO clue who you are testing. I have to have a paper copy that needs to be handed in until I can start working in the office. Not even an email.

How about giving free INSULIN or CANCER treatments or getting people OFF of drugs and OFF the streets. I don't see that coming anytime quickly.
Life saving treatments and medicine will NEVER be free but testing for a virus that is never going away, with an almost 100% chance of not dying, unlike other issues is absolutely free for MOST people.

For me it’s less about who is making money from it than who is paying for it. These tests expire quickly. There is just no reason for this. Have pharmacies distribute free tests as needed but people are going to order them just because they are FREE. Let’s face it, most people can’t turn down anything that’s free even if they have absolutely no use for it. And as windy pointed out there are a ton on of ways this money could be better spent. Just because the government spends tons of money on things it shouldn’t doesn’t mean we should add to that.

I try and sell things to people everyday and have been working for 30 + years in businesses that are for profit. This is NOT the same as someone who buys something for their own pleasure.
Explain to me why covid home tests should be free and Insulin is not? My insurance company (thank god) helps pay for Insulin and pays for my covid test BUT I still have to pay some out of pocket to see a doctor every 3 months, insulin and supplies every few months. NONE of that is free BUT it is life threatening. Covid is life threatening for what, 1% of people?

For me it’s less about who is making money from it than who is paying for it. These tests expire quickly. There is just no reason for this. I agree with this 100%. Part of why the complication rate is so high for diabetes is because patients can’t afford insulin or supplies or lack access to healthcare. I think it’s despicable the way diabetes is treated in this country.
For me, the biggest issue with these free tests is that they don’t work and the high rate of false negatives give people a false sense of security. So the money is being spent on something that is potentially a detriment.

Nice dig but even if I could afford to live on ONE income I probably wouldn't, especially with school age kids, as sitting at home doing nothing all day would make me feel useless as a person. I wouldn't feel very productive and I like making my own money and feeling like I contributed to something in this world.

I just have to laugh when people get caught up in who is "making money" off of you. As if the healthcare industry is any different than anything else we pour our money into.
Samsung "makes money" off you because you want a phone in your pocket.
Doritos "makes money" off you because you like to eat junk food.
Your landscaper "makes money" off you because you'd rather not mow your own lawn.
Gap "makes money" off you because you need clothes.
Nike "makes money" off you because you need sneakers.
And yes, drug companies, doctors, etc etc also "make money" off you because we all need medical care, medical treatments and money.
Get over it. The entire world is a business. That's life.
I don't think putting money into ensuring every American has convenient access to a COVID test is a bad thing. Taxpayer money is squandered over way less useful and far more stupid things such as a wall that literally kept nobody out.
It must be nice to be so rich that you don't have to worry about your medical bills and insurance to go up because every Tom, **** and Harry is addicted to testing themselves every 3 seconds. How about giving free INSULIN or CANCER treatments or getting people OFF of drugs and OFF the streets. I don't see that coming anytime quickly.
Life saving treatments and medicine will NEVER be free but testing for a virus that is never going away, with an almost 100% chance of not dying, unlike other issues is absolutely free for MOST people.

No, you just have a different attitude towards money when you don't have to work for it. I get that companies are there to make money, I am WELL aware of that. I try and sell things to people everyday and have been working for 30 + years in businesses that are for profit. This is NOT the same as someone who buys something for their own pleasure.
Explain to me why covid home tests should be free and Insulin is not? My insurance company (thank god) helps pay for Insulin and pays for my covid test BUT I still have to pay some out of pocket to see a doctor every 3 months, insulin and supplies every few months. NONE of that is free BUT it is life threatening. Covid is life threatening for what, 1% of people?
I'm not going to waste my time on someone who can't have an adult conversation without making it personal. My finances have nothing to do with my comment nor are they any of your business.
And seriously, get over the fact that I don't HAVE to work, constantly bringing that up makes you sound pathetic and childish. PLENTY of families in the world do just fine on ONE income, sorry you're not one of them.

Nice dig but even if I could afford to live on ONE income I probably wouldn't, especially with school age kids, as sitting at home doing nothing all day would make me feel useless as a person. I wouldn't feel very productive and I like making my own money and feeling like I contributed to something in this world.

. My one friend’s husbands job does , yes. He’s in NYC and has to test weekly if he doesn’t get the vaccine. His job allows an at home test.
