Food in schools
I'm having a bit of debate with some parents at my district about bring food into the classroom for parties, birthday's etc. I'm talking about store bought with ingredients for those with allergies and also peanut free.
We have a few people saying that almost every single school district except mine does not allow any food at all which I find ridiculous.
Can you let me know if your school allows treats for parties, pta events, etc?

Ours does, but it is a Catholic school. There will be treats at the Halloween party tomorrow, and there are treats allowed for birthdays.

Yes we can have treats for all events. Store bought is encouraged. But can be homemade depending on the class.

DS is at a public school and in second grade. Every year, the classrooms allow food for bday parties and class parties. My son has food allergies and I *hate* that there are so many parties that include food. Additionally, most of the time it's junk food that is unnecessary for him to have so often.

In my district, food is allowed however it MUST be store bought with an ingredient label. Nothing "homemade" is allowed ever.

DS goes to a public NYC school and they allow food for birthdays and other classroom celebrations. They only ask to be notified, so kids with allergies can bring their own snack or cupcake for a celebration, so they don't feel left out.

Food is allowed in my DD's classroom because there are no allergies. But there isn't food allowed at school-wide events.

Food must be prepackaged with an ingredient list. However, children with allergies are still not allowed to eat it.

We can bring treats for bday celebrations. The PTA hosts bake sales where students can purchase things, haloween and holiday parties we all sign up to bring some food item in

We are not allowed food and I don't find it ridiculous at all. I also think the kids enjoy doing a craft or getting a trinket toy much more than a cupcake!

Our district just went to healthy treats for holiday parties, no food for birthdays. This is not for allergy reasons. They have specific allergy classes. Until this year those allergy classes were only food free parties. This year they allow food for holiday parties, but I understand fruit and veggies only in the allergy classes. All other classes just healthy snacks for holiday parties. No food for birthday parties. Some parents were happy, others very unhappy.

They have "allergy classes"?? My DS has multiple food allergies, and I don't think I would like him to be in a special class with different rules etc. He feels different enough.
In our district, food is allowed for parties and birthdays. Homemade as well as store bought.

Ours allows anything, homemade or store bought. The allergen rules are on a class by class basis. IF there is a child with an allergy, we cannot send in an item with the ingredient child is allergic too. With a child with allergies in the class, we have to send in ingredients beforehand and they send to the parent of the allergy child and they can decide if they can eat it or it gives them a heads up and they can send in their own treat if they are more comfortable.

All kids have to bring in their own food. Nut aware classroom, but no nut allergies.

I am not sure about our entire district or even school. DS is in a self contained class and it is only 8 students. There are no food allergies and we are allowed to bring in food for the kids. It can be store made or home made. I just brought in cupcakes on Friday for Halloween. Today was cheeze-its.

Yes we can bring in food - there are some peanut free classes where they are more stringent on what can be brought in.
The school is trying to encourage healthy food for parties though.
