Fondant cake? or buttercream?

my friend makes cakes , she can do both fondant and buttercream.

i am so torn on what to do.

Fondant is prettier and i like that it can be displayed without being in the fridge.
but i just don't like the taste of fondant. does anyone else feel this way?

but buttercream icing tastes so good, however it won't be on display.

what would you do? or have done!!

It's not any help, but we prefer Whipped icing! Chat Icon

Fondant definitely doesn't taste that good to me either. I prefer to have a cake without it.

I dont like the taste of fondant either, but it looks the best. I did buttercream for all our cakes.

Re: Fondant cake? or buttercream?

When it comes to a cake, I am more interested in the way it tastes than the way it looks. I just feel the whole point is to eat it! So for me, I vote for buttercream.

We had a fondant cake that tasted amazing!... but I don't eat the fondant Chat Icon It had buttercream or some other icing under the fondant, so I got a pretty cake and it tasted good. The top tier was all buttercream, but the middle and bottom were fondant.

Re: Fondant cake? or buttercream?

I went with buttercream for DD#2's birthday last year. Do not like the taste of fondant but like the look.
Lori from Lily cakes made her a smooth finished buttercream cake. Best of both worlds

ITA- I remember being so excited to try fondant and then was very disappointed because it was gross!

Re: Fondant cake? or buttercream?

Who cares about displaying it? Cake is for EATING - and if it tastes nasty, who cares how pretty it looks KWIM?

I say go for what you like -

I actually like the taste of fondant though - I must be weird !
