First time grandma: Christmas gift ideas?

hey all...

so my mom is going to be a grandma for the first time when our baby is born in March. i was thinking about a baby themed gift for christmas. do you think getting her a car seat or a pack and play is a good idea? doyou have any other ideas?

I'm due any day and have been working on gifts for my parents who are also first timers. I plan on getting them a car seat base and a pack and play, but not for Christmas...just because. Here's what I got so far...Have fun with it!!!

Then I got Grandma and Grandpa Onesies from Etsy.com. I tried to post the link, but it wasn't working. They are really cute though and both vendors were able to spell their names the way we will be doing (Gramma and Grampa).

I was going to get my parents a small gits from the baby, but nothing thats actually for the baby. I was thinking of one of those picture frames that say "grandparents" on it and then all the quotes/words that go with grandparents

with dd we didn't do anything big, ILs each got a book they could read to her (like FIL got the one by Billy Crystal) and I got my mother this book that is titled something like "Funny you don't look like a grandmother".

llast year when ds was born we gave my parents grandparent ornaments... this year it will be a statue

I got my mom her first digital camera for Chanukah She's going to have lots of reasons to take pics come January!

I found a Grandma's First Christmas ornament at the Christmas Store at Roosevelt Field and Sunrise Mall. I bought it for my mother in law!

Personally I wouldn't buy baby items as a gift for my mom for Christmas. Maybe something that she can do with the baby like books to read, games to play, a camera to take pictures, and such. I would probably do an ornament but only after baby was born, but I'm weird like that.

While I think it's a practicle idea I wouldn't feel comfortable with it. I'm due 01/20/10 so this is what we're doing......Her birthday is 12/22 so we had an ornament made that said Grandma to Be 2009 but the rest are normal gifts, and for Christmas we bought her normal things and then added a cute Detroit Tigers onsie and blanket for her house. My mom is a super fan so I know she'll love this.
We found out we were pg on Mother's Day last year so we bought the spare swing, PNP, and stroller at garage sales this past summer for her house.
