Finally have time to post- IKEA kitchen before and after AND pricing

LONG- but I wanted to put as much detail as I could

It's been awhile since I've posted about finally doing an IKEA kitchen, but it's done! It is certainly not a gourmet, custom kitchen by any means, but it's very more functional than it was before and price-wise was a much better alternative for us. I wanted to post on here because I feel like alot of people have asked me what we really paid, and if you really can get an entire kitchen for like $3k like the showrooms say. So I broke down literally everything below!

There are a few reasons we ultimately chose Ikea:
1.In addition to the kitchen, we wanted to install new windows on the whole first floor, wanted to install ductless AC units in our home. Doing IKEA for the kitchen allowed to us to have enough money to budget for everything :)

2. We had gotten quotes to do regular wood cabinetry, but the company that all three of the contractors recommended was called Fabuwood. When i compared warranties (5 years for fabuwood vs 25 for IKEA) and other extras (under cabinet lighting, slide out drawers, soft close doors were all included with my IKEA cabinets, but not with Fabuwood), I knew that IKEA was the way to go.

3. We wanted to do quartz counters, and once I realized that IKEA offers quartz in their store, I felt it was easier to do the whole kitchen with Ikea since the bill would be all one price and easier to keep track of the budget.

4. There was a 10% off kitchen sale going on, and 15% off countertop sale, so everything just aligned.

OK- So here is the link to the before and after: Kitchen Before and After
**The only thing that the photos don't show are the moldings. If you see the last photo, there's no ceiling moldings on the left or above the sink, but we have moldings now! lol**

BREAKDOWN OF IKEA ITEMS
Cabinets: Grimslov off-white
Counters: Caesarstone/Kasker quartz clamshell
Microwave: The only white one, lol I think was like $149
Sink: Norrsjon, the largest one
Faucet: Almaren with pull down spout
Pendants: Brunsta/Hemma

**We kept our current fridge, dishwasher and range (whirlpool white ice collection- only 3 or 4 years old). We also purchased a built in wine fridge from home depot.**

We used an Ikea contractor, but hired him outside of Ikea. He did a friend's kitchen and basically said if we wanted to use him we could call him on the side and he would charge us half of what ikea would charge. So it was an easy decision to say the least. He demoed, did the wall opening between the dining room and kitchen including supports, installed the new cabinets, ripped out our old labratory-style lights (the kind that warm up to turn on lol) and put 10 high-hats all around the ceiling, did the backsplash, hung the pendants, and basically re-sheetrocked our kitchen because a decent amount was damaged. He spackled the entire kitchen as well and sanded it down so it was ready for paint.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: COST:

Counters: $2555.10 (got 15% off during a promo)

Cabinets: $6750 (10% kitchen sale)

Kitchen Labor including materials (like caulk, sheetrock, spackle, etc.): $5220

High hats, pendants, and tile for backsplash: $400

Built-in wine fridge: $531.18

Painter: $500

Total Cost of Kitchen: $15,956.28

I would be happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability. Based on my experience, I definitely think if you can do the labor yourself, you can 100% do an Ikea kitchen with quartz counters for under 10k! If you do butcher block and DIY, it's definitely doable under 8k!

Kitchen looks great. Glad you had a good experience wth IKEA, it does have a lot of bang for your buck and the hardware (hinges, drawers etc) are top notch.

we had one in our last house. the other fun part is they have a lot of drawer accessories you can get, dividers for pots and pans, knife-blocks, silverware dividers that fit in and are relatively cheap for having it fit like a custom product in your drawers.

omg yes I should post what my pantry looks like it's so organized! I bought these awesome bins (vareira i think it's called) and they fit so nicely. I also bought bamoboo utentil trays and inserts for my utensil drawer and junk drawer. It's so neat and so easy to find things now

Did you ever run into any problems with your kitchen? If so, how were they about the warranty?

Only issue we had was there was some wear/chipping on a door or two over the timeframe we had it which was about 4 years. we just touched up with a small bit of paint before we sold and didn't bother with warranty.

The only frustrating part of the process was when we were originally installing the cabinets we got a few doors that were either chipped, or the white paint was thin and you could see the material under it on some edges. we had the doors replaced by Ikea without an issue, except sometimes those doors came damaged too.

110% agree! We did Ikea in our last house, smaller L shaped kitchen. With all new appliances, Ikea cabinets and butcher block counters, plus the labor ourselves, we did the entire kitchen for under $8000. When we moved the kitchen was 10 years old and was still going strong and looked great!

Your kitchen looks amazing!!! I'm glad to hear Ikea worked out well. We're hoping to do our kitchen in the next few years and it would be amazing to do it for that price!
