Famous Women in History with an edge to them...

My son is doing a project for school & has to do a biography on a famous woman.

He's not thrilled with the list his teacher gave & I suggested (JK Rowling?). He picked Bonnie Parker of Bonnie & Clyde. His teacher thought she was a singer & agreed.

When I told her who Bonnie Parker was & asked if it was ok to have someone infamous rather than famous, she agreed the point of the project was to be more positive about women.

He's not interested in Harriet Tubman (still an outlaw at the time, hailed as a civil rights heroine later on).

Any suggestions?

True. I guess it doesn't have to be historical since a lot of the kids are picking singers. I even suggested Yoko Ono because he's a Beatle fan. I think I'm just going to force someone on him.

Oooh!!! Elinor Smith!!! She was an aviatrix in the 20s and 30s. She was from Freeport and became the youngest female pilot at age 16.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll take a look & see what I can get him to do.

That line between "influence" & "too bad, you're doing what I say" is a thin one.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Dorothy Parker- i dont know how old your son is- her life history might be a bit indecent but I love her writing and she definitely has an "edge"

Julia Child, he might be interested in focusing on her work as a spy in WWII.

I'll keep trying to think of women with a sort of dangerous yet law abiding side, lol.
